Good morning. Students will begin course selection for the 2022-23 school year next week. The Power School Scheduling Portal will be open to families during the evening on February 15th. Please be on the lookout for directions, and an overview of the scheduling timeline in the next few days. East Hampton High School has been given an additional home test kits that have been specifically designed by the State of Connecticut for use by students in our schools. These test kits are available at no charge to families.

Parents must administer the tests if interested in a home test. School personnel are not allowed to administer the test.

Please contact the EHHS Main Office to obtain a home testing kit.

Beginning January 26, 2022, Mrs. Zupan will be hosting an after school SAT Prep Course in preparation for the March SAT. The course will cover the Verbal section of the exam (Reading and Writing & Language). You will learn tangible and actionable strategies that will, if practiced, improve your SAT score! All juniors are welcome to join. Please register by joining the SAT GCR (code: oxo4yif).

Girls Ice Hockey Co-Op defeated Wilton/McMahon/Norwalk Co-Op 8-5 and was defeated by Simsbury 0-4. Their current season record is 4-8. They are scheduled to play next on Wednesday 2/9 vs East Catholic Co-Op in Simsbury and on Saturday 2/12 Hand Co-Op at Northford Ice Pavilion.

Boys Ice Hockey Co-Op lost to Sheehan 2-5 and Lyman Hall 1-2. Their current season record is 9-4. They are scheduled to play next vs E.O. Smith-Tolland on Tuesday 2/8 at UConn Storrs Freitas Ice Forum and on Wednesday 2/9 vs Guilford at New Haven Walker Rink at Blake Field.

Indoor Track will be competed at the Shoreline Conference Championships in New Haven. The girls team finished 3rd and the boys team finished 6th.

Individual event winners for the boys were Nick Rivard-Lentz in the Pole Vault and the Sprint Medley relay team of Alex Urban, Alex Rivard-Lentz, Tyler Weatherwax and Luke Magge. Individual event winners for the girls were Kaylee Gravel in the 1000 and 1600 meters, Jess Starr in the 300 meters, Brylee Montanari in the 55 meters and the 55 meter hurdles and the Sprint Medley relay team of Brylee Montanari, Danielle Johnson, Tori Schiavoni and Kaylee Gravel.

The teams are scheduled to compete next in the CIAC Class S State championships on Saturday 2/12 in New Haven.

Boys Freshmen Basketball defeated Old Saybrook 49-42. Their current season record is 1-4. They play next on Saturday 2/12 at home vs Westbrook.

Boys Junior Varsity Basketball lost to Morgan 51-72. Their current season record is 4-9. They are scheduled to play at Home vs Cromwell on 2/7, at home vs Hale-Ray on 2/10 and at home vs H-K on 2/11.

Boys Varsity Basketball defeated lost to Morgan 58-77. Their current season record is 8-5. They are scheduled to play at home vs Cromwell on 2/7, at home vs Hale-Ray on Senior night on 2/10 and at home vs H-K on 2/11.

Girls Junior Varsity basketball defeated Morgan 32-24. Their current season record is 2-10. They play next at Cromwell on 2/8, at Parish Hill on 2/9 and at H-K on 2/11.

Girls Varsity Basketball defeated Morgan 45-23 and Valley Regional 41-28. Their current season record is 14-1. They are scheduled to play at Cromwell on 2/8, at Parish Hill on 2/9 and at H-K on 2/11.

The Cheerleading Team began their competition season this past Saturday at Windsor High School. They will compete next at the Shorline Championships on February 19th at Westbrook High School.

It’s time to pre-order your 2021-2022 East Hampton High School Yearbook! The Yearbook Club has been hard at work making sure this year’s book captures all the wonderful activities and happenings around school that we have missed out on with the past two turbulent years. By purchasing a yearbook, you will also have a way to remember both your friends and teachers without masks!

Parents! We are also beginning our Parent Ad sales which allow you to purchase an ⅛, ¼, ½, or full-page advertisement in the yearbook to dedicate to your student. Throughout the past three weeks School Counselors have visited grades 9, 10 & 11 to discuss PSAT Scores, made sure students had access to their CollegeBoard account and linked their KHAN Academy to it as well.

JUNIOR INFO:

On 2/3 Counselors visited half of the junior english classes and will finish the other half (now due to snow) on Monday -- to do presentations on post secondary planning. Additionally - Juniors should check their calandars as individual meetings have already started.

SENIOR INFO:

All students that have completed the transcript release form and shared it with your conselors in an appropriate time, your materials that you requested - letters of rec, transcript, and Mid-Year grades have all gone to your colleges (as indicated on your transcript release) via Naviance. If you recieve notification that the HS materials have not been sent- please know it takes a couple of weeks for them to match our materials with your application materials.

Please take a moment to read this important announcement regarding changes to the Counseling Caseloads for 2021-2022 School Year.

Distributions are listed below-

• Class of 2022 (Seniors) will remain with your counselors for next year- completing your four years with Mrs. Catlin (A-K) or Ms. Malcolm (L-Z).

• For ALL other students Classes of 2023 and beyond your counselor will stay with you for your entire high school journey.

• Mrs. Sullivan will have students A-D in grades 9-11

• Mrs. Catlin will have students E- M in grades 9-11

• Ms. Malcolm will have students N– Z in grades 9-11

Throughout the past two years, covid has impacted what education, college and career exploration opportunities were available - we are putting feelers out to all students in grades 10, 11 and 12 regarding the ASVAB Career Exploration Program. Now more than ever, students will benefit from robust career exploration as they plan to step out into a changed world.

It's not just a military test! The ASVAB Career Exploration Program is the only career planning resource that enables students to explore multiple paths to post-secondary success --college, certificates, apprenticeships, licensure programs, and the Military - in one place. The ASVAB CEP encourages students to explore a wide variety of career options rather than limiting their exploration by telling them what they can or should do. The program promotes career literacy through exposure to the requirements of entering over 1100 specific fields as well as the variety of approaches that can be taken. The program also provides both numerous resources and experienced educators to schools and students at no cost. The materials used in the program meet the National Standards for School Counseling Programs set forth by the American School Counselors Association (ASCA) and the Career Development Competencies established by the National Career Development Association (NCDA).

Please email or parent square Mrs. Sullivan (ksullivan@easthamptonct.org ) if you are interested in having your child take the ASVAB. Please note that at this time we have not yet scheduled a date- we will compile interest through Feb. 23rd.

Recently we have been having some issues with student dismissals from school and in particular, being dismissed due to illness without first going to the nurse. We ask that parents familiarize themselves with our attendance policy which is in the EHHS Student Handbook. Some of the main policies/procedures that we are asking for parents’ to help in adhering to are.

• EARLY DISMISSALS: A written request (no phone calls) from a parent or guardian must be presented to the main office before school begins so student may obtain an early dismissal slip. Students will wait in the main office for their parent/guardian to call the office and we will send your child out to meet you after they sign-out.
• NURSE DISMISSALS: In case of illness during school, dismissal will be arranged through the school nurse, or in her absence, through the office. Students feeling ill should report directly to the nurse's office. Students should not be texting or calling home when not feeling well.

Please note that having a parent’s written request before the start of the day allows the students name to appear on the Daily Attendance sheet so their teachers will be aware that they may not be in class on that day. This also eliminates the office staff from calling in and disrupting a classroom to dismiss the student. We do realize that there may be occasions when you may need to unexpectedly pick your child up early. In those cases we will call the student down when the parent/guardian arrives to the school

Masks are required (per the Governor's Executive Order) to be worn at all times at EHHS unless students are actively eating and drinking, outside on a mask break, or have been given specific permission by a staff member to remove their masks.

Please make sure that you check your child’s masks to make sure that they are cleaned regularly and are appropriate for use in schools. The school is glad to supply student masks in regular and child size for those who need a mask for a day. Please note that neck gaiters are allowed as a mask, but if they are thin, they should be doubled up. Bandanas are not allowed as a mask.

As a reminder, our daily focus at EHHS is on teaching and learning as well as the safety and well being of all members of the EHHS Community. If students are not wearing masks appropriately, our staff will work to correct and enforce student mask wearing. Should there be continued issues regarding mask wearing and non-compliance to teacher directions, students may be referred to the office for potential disciplinary action up to and including suspension.
