The Cardinal Letter
Fall Edition 2021/2022
Dear Parents and Students...
Welcome to the start of the 2021/2022 school year! Thank you for being part of our school community.
Our new freshmen came together to participate in our LINK program to start off the school year. This program pairs our senior and junior students with our incoming freshmen to provide guidance and support as they transition to high school. Our goal is to create a school environment of inclusivity where students feel a sense of belonging in our school community and empowerment to contribute to our school culture.
Students are fortunate to be participating in activities, clubs, and an athletic season this fall. Cheer, football, soccer, swim, tennis, and volleyball are in full swing. Parents and students are able to cheer on the Cardinals at all events as well as view our events on our live-streaming channel. You can stay up-to-date by reading the weekly edition of Cardinal Activities.
This school year, we are continuing to find ways to support our students. We are providing a remote learning experience for those students who need that option for a short period of time if quarantined or isolated. Our staff is providing a curriculum on the Canvas Learning Management System. Staff can engage students learning remotely by providing Google Hangout Meets during the scheduled class period. We are encouraging students to check their emails daily for information and communications from their instructors if absent for long periods of time.
Even though this year may send challenges our way, we look forward to continuing to serve our families and our students to the best of our ability. We will continue to communicate updates in a timely manner if we need to implement changes to our school mitigation plans. Thanks for your continued support and partnership.
Respectfully yours,
Donna Goodman

To request a Pass to Leave or an Excused Tardy Pass: Press 1
To report or excuse an absence: Press 2
Regular student attendance is required by law (State Statute 118.16) and is essential if students are to make satisfactory progress in school. Students are required to attend all class periods. It is the responsibility of the student and the parent to see that the student attends school each day school is in session. Excused absences include illness or injury; medical, legal, DMV or military appointments, college visits, funerals, school-related activities including sporting or competitive events and field trips, family vacations (please notify the school in advance), and family emergencies.
MEDICAL EXCUSE REQUIREMENT: Excessive student absences may result in the student being placed “On Medical”. Parents will receive a letter notifying them that their student has been placed “On Medical” and all future illness-related absences may require a medical excuse from a physician.
UNEXCUSED ABSENCES: Any absence that is not cleared by a parent or guardian within 5 school days of the absence (the day of the absence and 4 additional school days) may be listed permanently as unexcused, which will generate a major behavior referral.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions!

Freshman Link Day
On Wednesday, September 1, we held LINK Day, our transition program, at Chi-Hi. LINK Crew is a program that welcomes the freshman class on the first day of school as well as continues to support them throughout their first year of high school. Junior and Senior students led groups of freshmen in team building activities, campus tours and walked through their schedule. These leaders help freshmen navigate the start of their high school experience on a positive note.
More and more studies show that if students have a positive experience during their first year in high school, their chance for success increases dramatically. Link Crew provides the structure for freshmen to receive support and guidance from juniors and seniors who have been through the challenges that high school poses, and understand that the transition to a larger school can sometimes be overwhelming.
All students had a great time on LINK Day!

National Voter Registration Day - 9/28/21
Seniors...you will be our nation’s largest eligible voting bloc in upcoming elections. Your generation of voters is enthusiastic about civic participation and eager to make their voices heard, so let’s get at it!!
Again, this year, Chippewa Valley Votes (CVV) will be sponsoring National Voter Registration information activities at Chippewa Falls Senior High School. This national event ensures eligible voters throughout the United States can register in their respective districts each year. Chippewa Valley Votes does not have a political purpose, rather we are nonpartisan volunteers that provide information for high school seniors on how to, where to, and when to register to vote in Wisconsin
Chi-Hi Seniors: Turning 18 years old means you need to register to vote
Chi-Hi Staff: If you’ve changed your address since the last voting you need to re-register
Chi-Hi Teachers and Parents: Here is an interactive Powerpoint that can be used in the classroom or independently to register students: Voting 2021, Why does it matter?
Because of Covid precautions, Chippewa Valley Votes volunteers likely will not be able to meet students in person as we have in the past. Please feel free to contact us for assistance or more information at www.chippewavalleyvotes.org
