LTHS Recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a 2021 Nationally Ranked High School

LTHS has again been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a 2021 Nationally Ranked High School. We were also ranked in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2018 - 2020.

LTHS is ranked #1,813 (top 8% of all high schools) in the National Rankings, #62 (top 8% of all PA high schools) and #1 in the Williamsport Area. Schools are ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation rates and how well they prepare students for college.

The data suggests that one of our strengths is our ability to continually "chip away" barriers in order to close the achievement gap for historically struggling subgroups of students on Keystone Exams. Additionally, we continue to make strides with the number of students choosing AP coursework and performing well on those AP exams.

Meet Reese ~ Therapy-Dog-in-Training

Meet Reese "the Peanut Butter Puppy!". Reese is our new Therapy-Dog-in-Training. She's a six-month old Golden Retriever who is AKC registered and currently training to become certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATC) this winter. Over the next month, we can help to determine if Reese is a good "fit" for a career as a therapy dog. When she's not in school, she lives at home with our Trauma Counselor, Ms. Serafini.

Counselors in the Classroom

Mrs. Rippey visited the second semester Freshman Seminar and Technology classes to teach students about course options and educational opportunities available throughout their high school experience. Students completed a tentative 4-Year College and Career Plan, including projected high school coursework that aligns with their interests and future goals.

Mrs. Rippey also visited the remaining English 10 classes to work with sophomores on a number of activities within Smart Futures, our district’s new career planning and portfolio platform. Students completed personal interest and personality type assessments. They also analyzed how these factors relate to possible career options and explored careers that match their personality type. In addition, students completed an updated 4-Year College and Career Plan, including projected high school coursework that aligns with their interests and future goals.

Students in the junior class took the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) in October. The ASVAB is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures skills and abilities and helps predict future occupational success. Mrs. Campman visited the second semester English 11 classes to review ASVAB results with students. Students also completed an interest inventory that was combined with their ASVAB score. These combined results gave students a personalized list of potential careers that would match their interests and skills.

CTE Opportunities

Starting in 10th grade, LTHS students have the opportunity to pursue and further their career knowledge and skills by participating in career and technical education (CTE) programs. Students who pursue these opportunities attend their core courses at the high school and then hands-on instruction in their program area of interest in place of elective courses here at LTHS. This could be a great opportunity for students who have future career interests in the offered areas or those who aren’t sure what they want to do in the future, especially if they would prefer to be engaged in hands-on learning for half of their school day! Please click here to learn more about CTE programs available to our high school students and have your student reach out to their school counselor if they might be interested or have any questions.

Catch Me if You Can ~ The Musical

Based on the hit film and the incredible true story, Catch Me If You Can is the high-flying musical comedy about chasing your dreams and not getting caught. Students in 9-12th grade presented Catch Me If You Can to sold out audiences April 23-25th in the High School Auditorium. LTHS was the Regional Premiere of this musical, which means that any professional, community theatre, or school has yet to perform this musical in Central PA.

After losing the 2020 Production of Pippin due to COVID shutdowns, the cast, crew, and production team were overjoyed for a return to live theatre. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend.
