AVA Family Update
April 14, 2023
Good morning AVA Families,
No school next week, and we will have a normal week when we return on the 24th. The schedule is pictured below.
For new items this week, I offer my usual advice to students about breaks: it's a great time to catch up. I monitor email all during vacations, so let me know if I can help in any way.
The other new item is a big one, and I will be keeping this notice here for a few weeks to try and make sure everyone sees it. I began in September with my warnings about plagiarism, and the particular temptation it offers virtual students. Over the past months, the AI chatbot issues where students submit computer generated writing pieces have been a real issue. The technology at the time certainly advantaged students who were looking to take shortcuts. Fortunately, the technology to defend against such activity has caught up, and we are now flagging assignments that are caught by the systems. Submitting AI generated responses will be dealt with the same way we have dealt with plagiarism. Students, please know our tolerance for this will be quite low going forward. Do your own work, please.
The usual guidance and community updates are below and I thank you for your time.

Guidance Update
Grades 9-12 - NCAA Webinar for students and families
The NCAA Eligibility Center is hosting a webinar for college-bound student-athletes and their families on Sunday, April 30. They will go over what students can be doing now depending on their high school grade level and answer any questions you may have, like about recent removal of standardized test score requirements. Please click HERE for the flyer and registration information.
Grades 9-12 - NCAA Registration
This is another kind reminder to students and families who are interested in participating in collegiate sports to register online with the NCAA. Although you may register even after high school graduation, we recommend doing so while still enrolled in high school to ensure a smoother transfer of school records and information. AVA's CEEB code for NCAA registration is: 220067.
