2021 Bond Update
Bastrop Independent School District ~ September 23, 2022
We have had a busy start to the fall semester and have some exciting updates for you in this issue. At our September 20th board meeting, our partners from Stantec gave a presentation to the Board of Trustees, and we've pulled some highlights to share with you here. If you want to review the entire slide deck, you can download it here.
School Naming Committee & Nominations
We are accepting nominations to name our two new schools. A committee will review the nominations and recommend names for the Board's consideration, including school colors and mascots. To submit an online nomination, click this link >> https://forms.gle/yGXNuY4z36DNxsi67
New Boundaries Coming Soon!
We will meet with Zonda (our demographer) in early October to receive updated enrollment projections. We also will start the process of redrawing boundary lines as we move from six elementary schools to eight. Our community will have an opportunity to weigh in on the new boundaries later in the fall semester before they are considered by the Board in January/February.
New Elementary (Bastrop-The Colony)
We are currently awaiting documents from the City of Bastrop for plat and drainage plan. Once those are approved and received, the. District will forward to the county for permitting. You can see the site work that has been completed in the image below. We should be pouring concrete shortly. We are in the process of identifying the furniture, fixtures, and equipment we will need for this school and plan to place orders for that by the end of October.
New Elementary (Dale)
Construction is in progress! The slab has been poured, and we are prepping for wall panel pours. On Tuesday night, the board of trustees approved a resolution in support of an agreement between BISD and TXDOT so that the signal work can begin at the entrance to the school off of FM 812. We are in the process of identifying the furniture, fixtures, and equipment we will need for this school and plan to place orders for that by the end of October.
Mina Elementary
Site work has started at Mina to prepare for the new building and playground. In addition, the exterior of the existing buildings have been refreshed with paint in a new maroon. You can see in the photos below the difference a little paint makes in giving the school a new life!
Cedar Creek High School
Construction is in progress converting the former learning community spaces into classrooms and science labs. The security film has been placed on all of the glass classrooms and doors in this portion of the building. As you can see in the pictures below, we kept the bottom panel of the class the corresponding color of that particular learning community for wayfinding and design detail.
To help this campus address enrollment growth (which has outpaced projections), we added three portable buildings to the back of the school for six additional classrooms. We have been installing water, data, sidewalks, and decks to complete the installation, and those 6 portable classrooms should open next week.

Interior of New Classrooms
Field House & Dance
Renovated and/or new flooring
Bastrop High School
We are in final phases of design for BHS. We will see a new two-story building at the front with new entry and drive, renovations to health science, dance/choir, and more. There will also be a new auto tech building. Interior spaces will see renewed finishes on the floor, walls, lighting, etc. We anticipate construction to start in early spring.
Secured Courtyards at BMS & CCMS
The wrought iron fencing and gates have been installed at both middle schools to secure the open courtyards. This allows students to more freely and safely move between buildings.
