Edgewood's Tiger Talk

One of the biggest ways you can support your child's education is by taking interest in what they're learning at school.

The trouble is, usually, when you ask a child what they did at school, they shrug and say, "I dunno." Kids are tired at the end of the day, and it can be hard to come up with "share-worthy" details at your parent/guardian's request.

We have two things to help you ask questions that might get better results.

The first is the "Week at a Glance" that your child's teacher shares with you every week on Parent Square. This tells you what your child is learning. So instead of asking, "How was your day?", you can ask, "I know the multiplication unit started. What have you learned so far?"

The second are our Elementary Family Guides, which can be found here. They give more detailed information about the big ideas and goals in each grade level.

Even if kids still shrug at the question, your asking about what they're learning conveys to them that you think it's important...and that matters a lot.

Thank you to everyone who came back to our Back to School Picnic. What a blast! It was wonderful to see students and families enjoying each other's company.

In addition to funding field trips, school purchases (like the sign) and teacher appreciation week, we organize events like this to build community at Edgewood and make elementary school memorable for our kids.

Two things to pay attention to:

1) Our BIGGEST fundraiser of the year starts TODAY! Check your child's backpack for the brochures.

2) Our first Parent Cafe of the year will be Tuesday, September 20th from 6-7pm in the library. We will have childcare. We hope to see you there!

Many of you shop on Amazon. Did you know that you can earn money for Edgewood's Home and School Association while doing it? You can give more $ to your child's school by doing what you'd do anyway!
