Mountain View Weekly Update

To ensure the safety of our students and staff, please adhere to the following procedures for pick-up and drop-off:

- The staff lots are not to be used by parents for pick-up or drop-off. Please use the front circle, Dean Road curb line, and Orchard circle.

- The cut-through between the small staff lot and circle is not to be used for through traffic. This poses a danger to staff and students who are crossing.

- Per the green arrows on the diagram below, cars utilizing Orchard should pull all the way around the circle before dropping off. Please do not stop at the first sidewalk, as indicated by the red "X." This creates a traffic jam and leads parents to pass on the driver's side, which is a danger to students exiting vehicles.

- Also as noted below, the inner circle curb line (red circle) is not to be used for drop-off or pick-up.

- Each year, administration receives regular reports of students not utilizing crosswalks and running across the street, particularly near Orchard and Park. Please remind your child to use crosswalks at all times.

- Reminder: Back to School Night has been rescheduled for September 14. The updated invitation was included in the September 3 Weekly Update.

- All students will take the Start Strong Assessment on Monday, September 13. Detailed information from Mr. Moser regarding the assessment was included in the September 3 Weekly Update. Students in grades 5, 7, and 8 will take Math and ELA assessments. Students in grade 6 will take Math, ELA, and Science assessments. Testing will take place in home base during various points in the day.

- The Lions' Den will be open to students, beginning Monday, September 13, from 8:00 - 8:30. Students may use this time to study, read, complete classwork/homework, and/or work on projects under the supervision of Mr. Jorgensen. Students are to ring the intercom at the front door to enter the building and will sign in at the entrance to the Lions' Den.

Today, students participated in their first first Advisory lesson during EEE. The focus of the lesson was self-awareness and understanding what makes each of our students here at Mountain View unique. The students shared what they believe to be their definition of unique. They also explored why being unique, being yourself, and persevering is important. As individuals in our school community we all have certain talents, qualities, likes and dislikes that make us US. Together, celebrating and embracing our differences, we all fit together like pieces of a puzzle to form our school community. The students were all given a puzzle piece to decorate with words and pictures that describe them best. These pieces will all become a part of our school-wide puzzle and be displayed throughout school. Ask your child what they included on their puzzle piece, and share with them what you would put on yours.
