Professional Learning Communities Work
This week the work focused on unpacking power standards to identify learning targets, essential questions and key skills. The unpacking process allows you to think about where you want students to be at the end of that unit and then work backwards.
As you are planning, think through these questions:
- What prerequisite skills do you need students to know and what skills do you want them to know at the end of this unit?
- What students do you anticipate not reaching proficiency? (reviewing student work and formative assessment data)
- What are their learning strengths and needs?
- What instructional practices/strategies will you utilize to allow students to access and show their understanding/application of the content?
The power of this process is in the collaborative discussions with your colleagues around these questions, learning WITH and FROM each other on high impact instructional strategies which then informs your ongoing individual planning.
This is a continuous improvement journey that we are on TOGETHER. At times it may feel uncomfortable. Productive struggle is not just for students but also for us as we continue to grow in our practices.
I look forward to the ongoing collaborative discussions as a team!
CELEBRATIONS!
Thank you everyone for your assistance with reminding students about the expectations with the mitigation measures. The lunchroom has been much smoother!
