SMS Weekly Update
4/29/24-5/3/24
Dear SMS Families
Dear SMS families,
As we enter May this week we are excited to finish the school year strong! It's important that students continue to get a good nights sleep and come to school with a charged laptop.
Last week we had a fun time meeting the upcoming 6th graders (current 5th graders) at Step Up Day, with tours around the school, an introduction to our staff, and what classes we offer. We also had a great showing at our Step Up Night! Parents and guardians of current 5th graders were able to come check out the school and ask questions.
We have 78 participants in our Track and Field program! SMS Track and Field meets at HOME this Wednesday, 3:45-6:45pm, against Kings Junior High. Come cheer them on at Sultan High School's field.
The Sultan Technology Student Association is pleased to offer a STEAM Fair on May 2nd, 4pm-6pm, and May 4th, 2pm-5pm. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Cost to view the fair will be $3 per person. This fee supports STEM and career focused programs at SMS. There is no submission fee for projects or students who participate. Come see what our students have created!
8th Grade Promotion will be Tuesday, June 18th at 5pm. 8th graders and their families are welcome to attend and celebrate our 8th graders moving up to SHS!
SBAC Testing
SBAC Testing will take place from May 13th-31st. It is important that your student is present and prepared! Help your student succeed by ensuring they are:

Thank you for your help in making this testing time successful!

Spotlight
Last week we held an Anti-Vaping Assembly with a visit from Rob Holla, a youth speaker. Calling on a few students to participate, it was an engaging fun time! He dispelled myths about vaping, educated us on the truth about the harmful effects, and the ways it has been marketed to children. Thanks for educating our students! Check him out at www.robholla.com!
Tardiness Procedures
A quick reminder that if a student is tardy to school in the morning, he/she must report to the office and print off a tardy pass. School starts at 7:50 and any student arriving after that is considered tardy. Tardiness due to dental/doctor appointments with a parent note/call or late buses will be excused.
Unexcused tardies will result in the following consequences:
• At 5th tardy – Lunch held in the Student Success Center to review expectations.
• At 8th tardy –Two lunches held in the Student Success Center to review expectations.
• At 11th tardy – Four lunches held in the Student Success Center to review expectations and a parent meeting scheduled.
• At 14th tardy --Alternative passing schedule put in place to help facilitate arriving to class on time. This will be in place for the remainder of the quarter.
