Parents, We Need Your Presence!
Our Parent, Teacher, Student Organization President, Ava Coffen is appealing to our parents to drive up more presence at monthly PTSO meetings.
Parent involvement in the PTSO is paramount for fostering a thriving school community and promoting student success. When parents actively participate in the PTSO, they contribute to decision-making processes, advocate for the needs of students, and support educational initiatives. Their involvement not only strengthens the bond between home and school but also creates a collaborative environment where ideas can be shared, concerns addressed, and resources allocated effectively. Furthermore, parent engagement in the PTSO provides invaluable opportunities for parents to stay informed about their child's education, build relationships with educators, and actively contribute to shaping the school's culture and policies.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 19 at 6:30 pm in room 100, where we will explore the school budget for next year, and we need your input in how school funding shapes our improvement.
9th Grade Data Pacing School for Improvement
We are extremely proud of our freshmen, who are on track for promotion at twenty percent better than last year. Against PGCPS, our ninth graders are outpacing all other subgroups (Black students, Hispanic Students, SPED, Multilingual Learners) at twenty points or better. We want to extend kudos to our ninth grade students and team, under the leadership AP Tanya Parris-Andrews. Way to show that Den Pride ninth grade!

SAT School Day - Wednesday, March 6
Juniors will be taking the SAT the school day on Wednesday, March 6. Students must be classified as an 11th grader reflected in SchoolMax to qualify for this opportunity. Students need to be at school by 7:30 a.m., as they must be checked in and be ready to test by 8 a.m. Here are a few tips for things that you can do to help students be ready for the test:
Encourage Rest and Relaxation: Ensure your child gets plenty of sleep in the days leading up to the test. A well-rested mind performs better, so encourage them to establish a regular sleep schedule and avoid staying up late cramming.
Review Test Strategies: Go over test-taking strategies with your child, such as time management, process of elimination, and how to approach different question types. Practice with sample questions to reinforce these strategies.
Provide Emotional Support: Remind your child that their worth isn't solely determined by their SAT scores. Encourage them to stay positive and confident in their abilities. Offer words of encouragement and support to alleviate any test anxiety they may be feeling.
Ensure Preparedness: Double-check that your child has all the necessary materials ready for test day, including admission ticket, identification, No. 2 pencils, calculator, and snacks. Help them organize these items the night before to minimize stress on the morning of the test.
Offer a Healthy Breakfast: Provide a nutritious breakfast on the morning of the test to fuel your child's brain and sustain their energy levels throughout the exam. Avoid heavy or unfamiliar foods that could cause discomfort or distraction during testing.
Brainfuse Tutoring for Students
Live tutoring (including in Spanish) is available from 2pm to 11:55pm EST. Students can use SkillSurfer to practice long division, improve reading comprehension, and learn other key skills. They can submit a writing sample to the Writing Lab and get feedback on structure, grammar, style and content to help them better organize and present their thoughts and information.
Additionally, Brainfuse now offers live assistance for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application to maximize on monies they are able to receive for college and trade schools. Live FAFSA tutors are available to help both students and parents with completing the FAFSA application.
