A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
What a week; we began with snow and ended with rain! I'm very happy to see the snow melt. With spring comes the question of coats and boots. We do go out in all types of weather, except steady rain. Please make sure that your child has enough outerwear to be comfortable outside for a thirty-minute recess.
Thank you, PTA, for sponsoring the cost of having the Harlem Triksterz visit our school last Tuesday. Much like the Harlem Globetrotters (comedy/entertainment/basketball game), they were a huge hit! "Showboat" Jackson and his teammates regaled the students with their skills. Feedback from students was that it was "The best assembly ever!" Judging by the level of noise in the gym, it truly was a blast.
I hope you will be able to make it to tonight's Battle of the Books at Woolwich Central School, which begins at 6 PM. It's my favorite RSU 1 event of the year. To see fourth and fifth graders excited about a reading competition is truly amazing.
Finally, remember that Monday, April 1st is the RSU 1 budget public forum. It begins at 6 PM and will take place at Morse High School in the practice gym.
END-OF-THE-YEAR SCHEDULE
If there are no snow days this year, the end-of-the-year schedule will look as follows:
June 12: Last day for Morse High School, Bath Tech, Bath Middle School, and Phippsburg
June 13: Last day for Woolwich and Fisher-Mitchell
June 14: Last day for Dike-Newell
*All will follow a half day schedule
BUDGET PUBLIC FORUM
Just a reminder that Monday, April 1st, there will be a public forum on the school budget, held at Morse High School at 6:00 PM.
SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS WANTED!!
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Do you, or someone you know, have a child living in Phippsburg that will be five by October 15th? If so, they are eligible for our full-day kindergarten class. Please call Mrs. Doran at 389-1514, and we’ll add them to the list for this fall. Parent Information Night will be Wednesday, May 15th from 5-5:45PM and Kindergarten screening will be Friday, June 7th. Advance notice helps us to ensure we have enough materials. Online kindergarten registration is now available at the link at the bottom of our website. If your child is currently attending the CHOICES program or you have other students in RSU1, please use your parent portal account (portal.rsu1.org). If your family is new to RSU1 and you are registering for the first time for Kindergarten, choose the Kindergarten registration link. Families are encouraged to register as soon as possible. We look forward to assisting you.
MHS SCLC MAINSAIL NOMINATIONS
The Morse High School School Community Liaison Council (SCLC) has opened nominations for The Mainsail Award, which the SCLC has awarded since 1980. The Mainsail Award recognizes people who have made outstanding contributions to benefit the youth of the greater Bath community. In addition, nominees should exemplify the ideals of American citizenship such as respect, honesty, justice, individual freedom, and equal opportunity.
The nominee should have made a major contribution to the youth of the school district, though it may extend to the wider community, state, or nation. The individual should be a current or past resident of the greater Bath area. The Mainsail Award will be presented this year in a manner still to be determined!
Current Morse students, current SCLC community members, and current RSU1 employees are not eligible for the award. The SCLC gives preference to individuals (as opposed to a single nomination for a husband and wife, for example) and to Morse High School alumni. However, a joint award could be considered. The SCLC thoroughly reviews all applications and meets the challenge of selecting a recipient for the award with a sense of gravity and honor.
The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
Direct questions to Kelsey Ortiz (kortiz@rsu1.org), SCLC Advisor.
Nominations can be submitted here: LINK
