The Llewellyn Friday Flyer
March 8, 2024
Dear Families,
It has been an amazing week with sun shining during every recess brightening our spirits. What a welcome change from all the rain! Our 5th graders visited Sellwood Middle School, Mason Bee lessons continued, and our Kinders celebrated 100 Days of school. There is always something to look forward to at Llewellyn!
While many things are going well, I want to make sure to remind everyone about our Device Policy at Llewellyn. We ask that students turn all devices off and put them away in their lockers while at school. Lately we have seen a resurgence of the use of watches with texting ability. It is very hard for students to ignore text messages during school times. If a student needs to contact parents for important reasons, they may use the phone in the office. Thank you for your support in helping students to stay focused on learning!
We are also asking for your input around the adoption of a SEL curriculum. Earlier this week you should have received an email with links to videos, sample lesson plans, and brochures that shared information about the two curriculums being considered for next year. There is also a survey that you can complete sharing your thoughts about each of the curriculum choices. Our decision needs to be made by March 22nd. You can find the message and all info HERE: SEL Curriculum Input Information

From the Music Room
Ms. ZWB is looking to recycle Jenga blocks to create a music game for our music room. Does anyone have any old Jenga games or even partial games with pieces missing they would like to pass on and donate to the music department? We will take as much as we can get.

Welcome back everyone!
PTA Happenings
Our next PTA meeting is coming up on March 19 @ 7 p.m in the Llewellyn Library. Our speaker will be a former Llewellyn parent, Erik Keyser, who is part of the Cleveland Modernization committee. He will be discussing their proposal to the school board and giving us some information around the planning process. A survey was recently sent out to the PPS community with specs for either a “completely redesigned new building or an extensively renovated and significantly rebuilt while keeping the original 1929 structure.” Please join us for this presentation and a Q & A to follow to better understand the advantages and trade-offs for both building plans and how they will affect your future high schooler’s possible learning environment.
There are still plenty of volunteer opportunities to spruce our school garden! There are several ways to help. There are several super critical construction projects like replacing the shed roof so there is no leaking inside and so our Mason bee houses are protected from the rain, installing the picket fence, and removing the old bed frames. We also need some classroom garden liaisons to connect with teachers to use the garden in classroom projects and general garden upkeep. Our Earth Day event will be on April 20 and we need volunteers to be leads for the garden work party and Earth day themed crafts, games, and activities. Please check Konstella for the sign up to give our garden some spring love!

From The Foundation
Principal Pam's message was clear, PPS budget cuts will impact Llewellyn next year. Three classes will be impacted with larger class sizes.
The purpose of the Llewellyn Foundation is to raise funds throughout the year to provide additional staff positions to the school. Principal Pam has outlined her plan for additional support that will go to the whole school:
1. Looking for 2 part time EAs
2. Fund part time counselor for students
In order to make this happen, we need support from parents to fund these additional positions. We are calling on you to donate now. You can do so in the following ways:
1. One-time or recurring donation directly to the Foundation. Any donation helps.
2. Get involved - join the Foundation today to help fund raise.
3. Participate - go to dine outs and upcoming events.
You can DONATE HERE. Funds raised through June will go towards hiring a half-time counselor and 1-2 educational assistants in the 24-25 school year. Thank you to all those who have been able to contribute so far.

Dear Llewellyn School community, ,
PPS is working to make our buildings more climate friendly by lowering emissions and increasing health and comfort. To figure out how to prioritize this work, we need your help!
We're asking families, students, and teachers to join us for public listening/input sessions on the district's decarbonization planning. We want to find out what and how we should prioritize this work to help give students and teachers the best possible experience they can have each day in PPS schools. Everyone from the community is invited to join for these 60 minute meetings.
March 18, 5:30-6:30 PM -- Franklin High School, Room M-223, for all schools in the Franklin and Cleveland clusters (all are welcome)
You can also attend the Lincoln High School meeting on March 19, 5:30-6:30 PM @ Lincoln HS if that date works better for you.
Please RSVP here.
If you have any questions, please email decarbonization@pps.net. If you cannot attend in person, you can also submit feedback through this online form.
At PPS, 90% of our greenhouse gas emissions come from our buildings! This is an amazing opportunity for the district to be part of a green future and to make our buildings more sustainable and comfortable for our community.
We appreciate you participating.
Thanks so much,
The PPS decarb team
