Impacts of Teacher Librarians
There is a wealth of research shows the connection between a strong library program and student achievement. According to Loertscher (2014), "Coteaching between school librarians and classroom teachers positively impacts student achievement by engaging students with rich and robust learning experiences."

Navigating Complex Information Environments
MisinfoDay is a statewide high school initiative in Washington state. This is an annual media literacy educational event bringing together high school students, teachers, and librarians to learn how to navigate complex information environments and make informed decisions about what to believe online.

Iowa Association for School Librarians (IASL) announced the 2024-2025 book set awards. Perfection Learning was the awarded vendor, and Iowa Area Education Agencies facilitated the bid. Thank you to all the IASL Book Awards SubDivision Chairs who completed all the backend work!
Place your order using the official IASL Award book form by April 1 for guaranteed delivery and a free poster for each set ordered. IASL will release bookmarks, book trailers, and other resources after the 2023-2024 year ends. Teacher Librarian Professional Development
Dr. Lucy Santos Green from the University of Iowa provided an overview of the Guided Inquiry Design framework and its applications in our classrooms at our last session. All teacher-librarians had the opportunity to find entry points and consider additional ways to support students with the inquiry process. Our last session will expand our understanding of artificial intelligence and how to support digital and informational literacy skills.
Pear Deck Monthly Sync Sessions Continued
This monthly sync is intended to create a space to answer any and all Pear Deck related questions. In these syncs, Brittany, from the Pear Deck team, will use the time to cover Pear Deck updates, dive into features, and highlight teachers in the state of Iowa. This is for all Iowa educators to learn more about Pear Deck, but also to get your questions answered. To add your question or topic to the agenda complete this form prior to the sync session.

Lesson Planning Support
PebbleGo provides lesson plans and activities for both databases. The easiest way to access the educator resources is to log in to PebbleGo and scroll down to find Educator Resources. Note that the text is tiny. You can also access them on their resources page.
The examples below are adaptable and incorporate foundational practices.
- PebbleGo Fiction and Nonfiction: This lesson and graphic organizer could be expanded by incorporating other fairy tales and animals.
- PebbleGo Next Note-Taking: This lesson uses a well-known strategy for taking notes attributed to "Reading for Information: The Trash-N-Treasure Method of Teaching Note-Taking (Grades 3-12)" by Barbara A. Jansen.
