The CKH Leadworthy Character Word for APRIL is PERSEVERANCE.
What is PERSEVERANCE?
PERSEVERANCE is the ability and strength to face something that may be difficult or challenging. Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather perseverance in the presence of fear and the willingness to stand up for what is right or to try something new even though it may be uncomfortable or uncertain.
Why focus on PERSEVERANCE?
PERSEVERANCE encourages positive self-talk and thinking. When faced with difficult tasks, perseverance helps students reframe with positive thoughts, such as: "I'm not good at this YET!"
PERSEVERANCE develops empathy. Students gain a better understanding of who they are and develop more empathy and compassion for others who may struggle to reach a goal.
PERSEVERANCE sparks personal growth. Pushing through complex tasks builds resilience and helps students discover how capable they are.
Our students, who consistently exemplify perseverance throughout APRIL, are likely to be chosen as the Leadworthy Spotlight Winner for their class. Winners get to have a special lunch with the principals!

SUPPORT for PARENTS
Primary Care Triple P: Positive Parenting Program
(This is a one-on-one intervention)
Targeted Population:
Parents of Pre-K through 5th grade students
Parents seeking information about how to address a specific parenting or child behavior issue
The family situation is reasonably stable (i.e. not in the middle of separation/divorce, parent has psychological issues themselves, or the child has major psychological issues that have not yet been addressed)
Families will participate in a few assessments. Based on the outcome of those assessments, the Triple P Team may determine whether this level of intervention will be beneficial for a family. If it is not going to be beneficial, and they recommend a higher level of care, such as family counseling that would involve more intense involvement, the team will make an outside counseling recommendation to the family and let the referring principal know.
Program Objectives:
Increase parents’ confidence in managing common behavior problems and developmental issues
Reducing parents’ use of coercive and punitive methods of disciplining children (focusing on pre-teaching desired behaviors, rather than just reacting to a bad behavior)
Improving parents’ communication and reducing parental stress

~Class Attendance Incentive
When all students in a classroom are present and on time, with no early checkouts, the class receives a star for the day. Upon the 20th star, the class becomes eligible for the Class Attendance Incentive. There is a different incentive each month, so whatever the incentive is during the month a class reaches 20 stars, that's what they'll receive.
October: Mrs. Stringer's class reached 20 stars and received a GLOW STICK PARTY!
November: The following classes reached 20 stars and received a DANCE PARTY:

December: The following classes reached 20 stars and received MUSIC and FUN ACTIVITIES in the gym:

District Cereal Drive
"During the month of April, Bryant Schools is participating in the 2024 THV11 Summer Cereal Drive to benefit the Arkansas Foodbank. We will be collecting donations of nonperishable breakfast items to help our neighbors facing hardships — particularly children — during summer months. While many of us look forward to summer, 1 in 5 children in our state face increased levels of food insecurity as schools close classrooms and kitchens during summer break.
Donations will be accepted at any Bryant School. The following items will count toward each school’s total: cereal (17 oz. and larger), granola bars, cereal bars, instant oatmeal, and toaster pastries.
The last day to donate is Tuesday, April 30. Items will be sent to local food pantries who partner with the Arkansas Foodbank to feed hungry children and families in our community."
3rd - 5th ATLAS Boot Camp
Parents, if your student is attending the ATLAS Boot Camp, please see the image below that includes the dates. Please be reminded that students are to be picked up by 4:00pm after each boot camp session. Late pickups and absenteeism will result in student dismissal of the program. Thank you for your support with this!

We are encouraging our students to DO THEIR BEST, so please help us to encourage them to do the following:
- SHOW UP ON TIME
- GIVE BEST EFFORT/TAKE YOUR TIME ON TEST
- SHOW GROWTH IN READING OR MATH
~IMPORTANT!!
Parents, please talk explicitly with your students regarding the importance of not making threats (verbal or nonverbal/gestures). Many of our K-1 students are letting "I will _ _ _ _ you!" slip off their tongues or making gun fingers/pretending to shoot and point towards others. It is understood that you may allow your students to play this way or say these things at home; however, it is taken very seriously in the school setting and will be treated as such. If elementary school shootings were something we've never heard of, this would be a different story. It wouldn't be so alarming. Unfortunately, that is not our reality. School shootings are happening and have happened, and we will not take threats of any kind lightly. Again, please talk with your students about this. Thanks so much!
~3rd-5th DROP-OFF
Parents, please remember that we cannot drop students off at the back (near the gym stairs) after 7:45. Our doors automatically lock, and teachers/students may no longer be in the gymnasium to hear students knocking. If your student arrives after 7:45, you must drop him/her off in the front. It is incredibly unsafe for students to be locked outside, especially if no one is aware they are out there. Thank you for helping keep our babies safe!

Parents, we need YOU! Our elementary students cannot drive themselves to school, so it is up to you to make sure students are getting up on time, leaving the house on time, and arriving to school on time. They cannot do it without YOU. Please help our students be their BEST by helping them to start their day off right. Being on time sets the tone for a GREAT day! THANK YOU!❤️
Counselor Connection
- One of the standards in the BSD Comprehensive Counseling Plan is to educate students about living healthy and the effects of nicotine. HCES partners with Dawson Educational Co-Op and Arkansas Department of Health to present the age-appropriate Coral's Reef program to students. The goal of the Coral Reef program is to reach children with prevention and educational information at an early age to prevent initiation into tobacco and nicotine use as they get older.
- Project Prevent contests are open for 2024.

- No students are allowed to carry medication or pick up medication. An adult must be able to pick up and sign medication out from my office. If your child has medication at school, please remember that it must be picked up on the student's last day attending or it will be disposed of. Thank you!
- Please encourage your student to wash his/her hands thoroughly, use a kleenex or tissue to clean his/her nose, etc. We have so many illnesses going around, and students need to know how to help lessen the spread.
- Please remember that if your child is sick, do not send them to school.
- If they are running a fever of 100.0 or greater, they have to be fever free for 24 hours (without medication) prior to returning to school.
- Also, if your child is vomiting, keep them home for 24 hours until vomiting has stopped, also without medication.
- Please send extra clothes in your child's backpack to bring to school in case of an accident.
- Encourage your child to not share combs, hats, scarfs, headbands, or coats with other students for hygiene reasons.
