WEBSTER PAWPRINTS April/May 2024
NOTES FROM OUR PRINCIPAL-Mr. Brad Clark
Hello Webster Families:
April and May are very busy months for us at Webster. We have the PTO Carnival, Webster Spring Concert, and field trips coming up. Teacher Appreciation week is May 6—10. Please join me in acknowledging Webster’s wonderful teaching staff. We are extremely fortunate to have such caring and talented teachers working with our children. They truly make Webster a GREAT place for learning!
With spring weather right around the corner we will have more students walking to school and more parents walking to drop students off or pick up. We ask that you DO NOT bring dogs to school when picking up or dropping off students. I know that most dogs are friendly, but you never know what can happen when they are around 400+ students. We would all feel terrible if someone was to get bitten or frightened. Also, please help us to be good neighbors by not blocking or turning around in the driveways around Webster.
Have a Fantastic Spring!
Mr. Clark

TORNADO AND SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS
Wisconsin’s Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week is April 8-12. The campaign is to remind people of the dangers associated with tornadoes, thunderstorms, flooding and hail and to encourage citizens to take protective safety measures such as developing a personal preparedness plan and putting together a disaster supply kit. Have a plan at home, work and when you’re away.
Tornado Safety
●Be weather-ready. Check the forecast regularly to see if you’re at risk for tornadoes. Listen to a NOAA weather radio or local news for the latest information. Look for approaching storms and keep an eye on the weather conditions. Severe storms can come with little warning.
●Take shelter immediately. In a home or building, move to a pre-designated shelter, such as a basement, and get under a sturdy table or the stairs.
●If a basement is not available, move to a small interior room on the lowest floor and cover yourself with anything close at hand: towels, blankets, pillows. If possible, get under a sturdy table, desk or counter. Put as many walls as possible between you and the storm. Stay away from windows.
●If caught outdoors, seek shelter in a sturdy building. If you cannot quickly walk to shelter, get into a vehicle, buckle your seatbelt and drive to the closest sturdy shelter. If flying debris occurs while you are driving, pull over and park. Now you have two options as a last resort:
- Stay in the vehicle with the seatbelt on and place your head below the windows.
- If you can safely get noticeably lower than the roadway, exit the vehicle and lie in that area, covering your head with your hands. Do not seek shelter under an overpass.
●Mobile Homes: You should leave a mobile home and go to the designated storm shelter or the lowest floor of a sturdy nearby building.
Severe Weather Watches & Warnings
What to Listen For…...
When conditions are favorable for severe weather to develop, the National Weather Service (NWS) will issue a WATCH. When a Watch is issued, make sure you have a source of weather information in the event storms begin to form. When severe weather has formed, NWS meteorologists will issue a WARNING to immediately alert the public about the dangerous weather and to advise them to seek appropriate shelter. Watches and Warnings are relayed to local radio and television stations and are broadcast on NOAA Weather Radio. Public safety officials also get the Warnings and can activate local warning systems, like outdoor sirens, to alert communities.
●Tornado Watch: Severe thunderstorms with tornadoes are possible in your area. Remain alert for approaching storms. Be prepared to move to safety if a Warning is issued. Know what counties are in the watch area by listening to a NOAA weather radio, local radio or television stations.
●Severe Thunderstorm Watch: Thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds are possible. Be prepared to move to safety if a Warning is issued.
●Tornado Warning: A tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar. Move to a place of safety now!
●Severe Thunderstorm Warning: A storm with large hail and damaging winds has been reported or indicated by weather radar.
Warnings indicate imminent danger to life and property to those in the path of the storm!

DRESS CODE
Spring has arrived and so will warmer weather! To avoid confusion, we are sharing the following guidelines with all families.
WUSD Elementary Handbook Dress Code:
“School is the work environment for children. Especially in warm weather, children may want to dress for the beach, the park, and generally for play. However, this is not appropriate for school. Children are expected to wear tops that cover their bellies, backs, shoulders, etc. and do not show undergarments. Shorts and skirts should be modest and not too short. Flip flops are definitely NOT proper shoes for school. They don’t stay on the feet and are not good for walking or running. Hats, bandanas, sunglasses, etc., are not to be worn indoors. Of course, there can be no advertising or promoting of alcohol, drugs, beer, tobacco, profanity, or criminal behavior.”
What does this mean for Webster Wildcats?
~ Shorts and skirts must reach a child’s finger
tips when standing upright. This is also the
policy at other schools in the district.
~Spaghetti straps are not allowed on shirts or
dresses.
~No undergarments (male or female) should
be showing.
~Flip flops are strongly discouraged.
~If a student comes to school dressed in
clothing that does not meet the dress code,
we may ask the child to turn a shirt inside-
out, a call may be made home for different
clothing to be brought to school, or we may
provide the child with different clothing to
change into or to wear over his or her
clothing.
Please call the school office if you have any
questions about the dress code.
