STAAR Testing
We recognize that standardized testing can feel daunting for some of our students. It's important to remember that students are so much more than just a score. This test is an opportunity for our students to showcase all the knowledge, skills, and hard work they've put in throughout their academic journey. It's a chance to demonstrate their unique abilities and strengths.
Encourage your child to believe in themselves, stay focused, and approach the test with confidence. Our students are capable, resilient, and ready to shine bright!
They've got this!
STAAR Reminders
- Wednesday, April 17th all 3rd-5th grade students will take the Reading STAAR.
- On testing days our campus is closed to visitors of all grade levels, including during lunch.
Tips for STAAR Success
- Get a Good Night's Sleep: Get plenty of rest the night before the test. A well-rested mind is better equipped to handle challenges and retain information.
- Eat a Nutritious Breakfast: A healthy breakfast can provide the sustained energy needed for optimal performance.
- Stay Hydrated: Drinking water throughout the day helps us to stay alert.
- Healthy Snacks: Snacks and water will be provided, but if your child prefers to bring snacks from home, choose options that are easy to eat and won't leave residue.
- Stay Positive: Keep a positive attitude towards the test. Our students have prepared well and are ready to do their best.
2nd Grade Swim Lessons
Burnet CISD, in conjunction with the YMCA, is pleased to offer all 2nd grade students a Safety Around Water and Fundamentals of Swimming program. The lessons teach students about safe behavior around the water and will orient students to the aquatic environment to create a sound foundation for water safety skills.

April 23, 24, 25 (Barstow, Fucik, Havrda, Fitz)
We are asking each student to bring the following items on the

โ Swimming Suit (it would be helpful if they wore them under their clothes that morning)
โ Towel (please label with students name)
โ Bag to carry towel and swimming suit
โ Undergarments to put on after swimming
โ Large Zip-loc bag to put wet swimsuit in to carry home
โ Swimsuit cover / shirt (optional)
Pre-K and Kindergarten Round-up
PreK/Kinder Roundup for BCISD will begin on April 8th and run through April 19th. The first 200 to complete the full registration will receive a swag bag of Bulldog goodies on Meet the Teacher Night 2024! Registration is completely online on the BCISD website linked under the Parent and Student page.
Kinder Dyslexia Screener Information
Texas Education Code (ยง38.003) mandates that all Kindergarten students be screened for dyslexia and related disorders no later than May 23, 2024. Prior to screening, all BCISD students receive instructional intervention through the Benchmark Phonics Program. Additionally, all elementary students have Response To Intervention (RTI) time built into their daily master schedules. The screening is designed to ensure that all students are appropriately screened, and if necessary, are evaluated further so that reading difficulties will be addressed in a timely manner. The results from the screening will be used to guide instruction at the classroom level, shared with you, and used to determine if additional interventions are required for your student.
Attendance Matters
Bertram's ADA for this past week was 92.47%.
ADA stands for Average Daily Attendance and is defined as the total days of student attendance divided by the total days of instruction. "98 IS Great!", so 98% is our goal! We recognize that illnesses and events take place that necesitate absences, however, we do encourage every student to be in school every day he/she is able. Let's work toward 98%!
