Celebrate Middleton!
This week, we are highlighting our students! Day after day, our students show up in amazing ways. Whether it’s supporting their peers, working hard in class, extending kindness to someone in need or participating in any kind of enrichment activity, they go above and beyond and represent our school well! We are so proud of our students.
This newsletter contains important information about class placement for the 24-25 school year. Please be sure to read through the whole newsletter as there is a lot of happening!

Chef Sherwood
This year, several students were randomly selected from multiple classrooms to participate in our first Chef Sherwood. Interested students could enter golden horseshoes into a drawing and 8 winners were chosen. During this event, students created chef hats, toured our kitchen, tasted a variety of fruits and prepared and enjoyed a smoothie. We appreciate our Nutrition Services Department for helping make this happen!
Mustang Managers
Each year, 5th graders have the opportunity to apply to be a Mustang Manager. Through the application process, we are looking for students who can serve as role models in helping around the school. Our Mustang Managers support both students and teachers. We are grateful to have their help and they are very loved by our youngest students!
The Skills Center
Middleton is unique as it is the only elementary school in Sherwood with a Skills Center. We are fortunate to serve all elementary students in the district with our program. The students in the Skills Center program benefit from special services, supports, and inclusive learning opportunities. They are an important part of our Middleton community.
OBOB
We recently completed the Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) at Middleton. OBOB is an optional reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries available to all 3rd-5th grade students. OBOB encourages team camaraderie and the enjoyment of books from a variety of genres and authors. It is an excellent program to inspire kids to read! The Middleton OBOB program is run by our Instructional Coach and all 3rd-5th grade teachers. This year the winning team was Two Series and a Novel. A big congratulations to all of the participating teams.
Spelling Bee
Each year, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders participate in a local Spelling Bee. Once grade level winners are identified (from in-class assessments), we hold a Middleton Spelling Bee. This year, our winner was Ellie Westover. We are so proud of all of the students who participated!
Middleton 24-25 Class Placement Parent Input
As the end of the year approaches, we are starting to look ahead to next school year. The Middleton staff realizes that parents provide valuable information regarding their child’s placement. While we do not take requests for specific teachers, parent input will be carefully considered in the formation of classes for the 2023-2024 school year. Our class placement process is a collaborative one and our Placement Team takes into account a number of factors when forming classes: personalities, academic levels, learning styles, learning needs, and student compatibility. We look at each student as an individual and as a member of a diverse class. This information will be given careful consideration. Every effort will be made to provide the most appropriate educational setting for your child and to establish well-balanced classrooms. Please keep in mind that parent placement input is not a teacher request form. Any form turned in with a specific teacher’s name request will not be considered.
Please complete this survey no later than 5 pm on Sunday, May 12, 2024.
Welcome Principal Edinger
I'd like to welcome Natasha Edinger as Middleton's next principal. You might remember her as Middleton's Instructional Coach from 2018-2023. Since then, she has served as a Vice Principal in the West-Linn Wilsonville School District and is excited to return to Middleton as principal next year. Natasha will be an outstanding principal and I am thrilled for the Middleton community!

Food Drive Update
Thank you to everyone who donated food for the Helping Hands Food Drive. It's been a long time, but the Beavers won the challenge and brought in more food. Regardless of who won, we appreciate your thoughtfulness and helping our families of Sherwood in need.
Family Movie Night
Middleton Family Movie Night: Friday, April 26th. We will be showing The Mario Movie. The Doors will open at 5:30 with a movie start time of 6:15 in the gym/cafeteria. The entrance will be around the side of the school under the covered area through the gym doors. All students must be accompanied by an adult.
Entrance to the movie, along with water and popcorn will be free!! There will be pizza (including gluten free) and candy available for purchase of $1 each. Students can bring their own blankets and cozies to the movie. We look forward to seeing you there.
As an additional fundraiser for Middleton, Kona Ice will be here too. They will be open for business beginning at school dismissal, 2:30 until 5:30. No snow cones will be allowed in the building, but enjoyed outside.
PAC Board Elections
Each spring, we select the board members for next year’s Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). These are the parents who partner with the Middleton principal and staff to lead and promote volunteering, fundraising, activity and event coordination, and enrichment opportunities for the school. We'd appreciate it very much if you would take a moment to complete this quick online survey to help us finalize our board members for the 2024-2025 school year! Link to Middleton PAC Election Form
