Welcome back from March Break!
We hope that everyone has had a fantastic spring break, even if the weather wasn't all that spring-like!
We have had lots of reasons to celebrate recently. We are very proud of our students for all of their hard work in the first part of the second semester. We have seen students continue to excel in their academics, and we've had students show lots of responsibility and great character each day. We've also had some excellent results in our sport seasons! Our Junior Basketball teams did exceptionally well, with our junior girls placing third in Regionals. Our Senior Boys team placed third at Zone Championships, narrowly missing out on a trip to Provincials. Our Senior Girls team went undefeated at Zones to become Zone Champions, and then played well at Provincials, winning the consolation final to place 5th overall.
As we move into the final part of the school year, we continue to put a big focus on our students remaining diligent in their studies and keeping up on their school work. Parents can continue to check PowerSchool for information about missing assignments. Having trouble logging on? Check out instructions on our website here, or call the office to get some help!
We have many exciting events coming up for our students! We have our first "Night of the Arts" on April 30th, which will include a display of student works of art, as well as a performance by our Junior and Senior Bands. Our Badminton season begins this week with practices and tryouts, with tournaments starting the second week of April.
Welcome to Mrs. Irvine!
We are very pleased to introduce Mrs. Lynette Irvine as our new Learning Commons Facilitator. She brings with her an abundance of experience from over 20 years as a teacher for BRSD, and most recently from her time working at the Augustana University of Alberta Library. We are excited to have her join us, and she already has become a great addition to the staff!
Community Garden coming this Spring!
We are very excited to announce a great learning experience for our students that we are planning to start this Spring. Once the weather gets nicer, we will be creating a large garden in the field behind the school! Our hope is to plant a variety of vegetables for our community to access during the summer months. Our students will be able to learn about the growth process of different vegetables and learn how to care for their own food.
We are starting from scratch so we are hopeful that if families have any garden tools they are no longer using that they may consider donating them to the school. Also, we may need help turning the soil and fertilizing it for this first summer. We are hopeful to begin composting at the school eventually, but may need some help for the first year!
Please contact Mrs. Erickson, Mrs. Horlacher, or Mr. MacKenzie if you have anything you might be able to donate or if you are able to help with the preparation of the soil once the weather gets nicer!
Basketball
Junior High Boys - Our boys team had a very good season, and performed well in their playoffs, missing out on Regionals by one point! A big thank you to coaches Mr. Kellen Morris and Mr. Sean Murray.
Junior High Girls - Our girls team had a great building year thanks to their coaches Mr. Aaron Holba, Mr. Jon Monchak, and Mr. Jon Kauffman. The young team did a great job and placed 3rd at Regionals!
Senior High Boys - Our Senior Boys team played to their strengths this year and had great success in their tournaments. They reached the Zone Championships and lost in the semi-final, falling just short after mounting a great comeback after a tough first quarter. The boys played a great final game and came third in our Zone. Congrats on a great playing career to our Grade 12 players: Kyle Bergstrom, Conor Lestus, Carson Whiting and team manager Austin Krozser. Special thanks to our coach on a great season, Mr. Brian Hoglund.
Senior High Girls - Our Senior Girls team also had a fantastic season, and ended the season ranked first in the Zone. They went undefeated on their way to winning the Zone Championships. During Provincials, they lost a hard-fought game in the round robin, but went on to play a great game in the consolation final and placed fifth in the province. Thanks to coaches Mr. Ty Hoglund, Mr. Jon Kauffman, and Mr. Carson Tylosky. Congrats to our graduating players on a great High School Career: Emma Durand, Dominique Jamandron, Rachel Kauffman, Teagan Kovac, and Kate Kungel.
