Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS)
The upcoming state mandated testing, Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS), is scheduled throughout the month of April for students in 3rd - 8th grade.
The testing schedule varies across grade levels:
- 3rd, 4th and 5th grade will test over two weeks, from April 2nd - April 4th and April 9th - April 11th, in the mornings.
- 6th grade will test April 2nd - 4th.
- 7th and 8th grade will test April 9th - 11th and 8th grade will also test April 16th -18th.
You can reference the full schedule by clicking here.
CMAS testing is important to our school. The results tell us whether we are providing each one of our students with the best possible education and help us to make necessary data driven decisions for all of our students. Student results also allow us to analyze and fine tune our delivery in order to serve each student better. We want to provide the best education for our students!
Please partner with us by encouraging your students to give their best effort, work hard, and not stress about their final results. We always appreciate it if you try to schedule medical appointments around testing schedules and provide your child with a good breakfast before coming to school.
Parents, THANK YOU for the generous donation of snacks for our hard working students during testing!
Pi Day - Update
Pi Day is rescheduled for 3/28. Students in grades K-2 will be taught about Pi by our middle school students. Grades 3-6 will be learning about the number Pi and its necessity in their math classroom. During lunch grades 1-8 will be served pie in celebration of Pi Day. Thank you to everyone who donated a pie! The pies will be frozen until 3/28, when we can finally celebrate this important irrational number.
History Colorado Museum
Fourth grade had the opportunity to visit the History Colorado Center this week as a part of their study of Colorado History. During their visit, students learned the history of the Pueblo people in Mesa Verde. Additionally, they were able to experience life in Colorado in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Activities included gathering eggs, working in the general store, cleaning the schoolhouse, going down into a gold mine, and experiencing what a dust storm would sound and look like reminiscent of Black Sunday. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers.
Young Ameritowne & International Towne
The fifth and sixth graders want to thank the parent volunteers for making their Ameritowne and International Towne experiences a success. We are so appreciative of your hard work and couldn't do it without you!
Mini Cougar Camp
Our Mini Cougar Camp was quite the success – fun was had by all!
Sox Place
PCK will be participating in a supplies drive for an organization called Sox’s Place. Sox’s Place is a youth drop-in center in Denver, CO. It is an organization where people obtain food and other helpful services in times of need. Some crucial supplies that Sox’s Place needs are protein bars, gloves, hand warmers, cereal, pasta, hats/beanies, bottled water, backpacks, lunch boxes, pasta sauce, and blankets. The boxes for collecting the supplies will be placed at the entrances of the school. These boxes will be here for the whole month of March, so you have plenty of time to drop things off. Thank you and we hope you participate!
🍎 From the Lunchroom
After Spring Break, DCSD nutrition services will no longer be serving chocolate milk. The kids will have two options of white milk, fat free and 1%. There is also a water fountain in the lunchroom that kids can drink from or please send your kids with a water bottle to refill.
JOIN US IN THE LUNCHROOM! We welcome lunchroom volunteers!
The lunch period is from 10:40-1:00 pm.
News From the Board
The PCK Board of Directors wanted to give you an update on the ongoing search for our new School Director. We are pleased to announce that our finalists recently visited our school and had the opportunity to meet with our staff, parents, and administration. The finalist's visit allowed for valuable interactions and insights into their potential fit within our community. We appreciate everyone who took the time to participate in these meetings and provide feedback.
As we move forward with the selection process, the Board of Directors will convene before the upcoming spring break to discuss the wrap-up of the search process. The board's goal is to make a final decision regarding the selection of the School Director by the end of the month. We are committed to making a decision that aligns with our school's and community's best interests.
Thank you for your continued support throughout this important process. We look forward to sharing further updates with you soon.
You can submit your thoughts and questions to the board, here.
