Elementary
This year all of our Elementary students have been participating in a walk-to-reading intervention block. Every afternoon, all students go to groups at their reading level designed to help them grow. We have already seen amazing reading growth and progress! Ask your student what they are working on in their reading group and let’s celebrate all their hard work!
Secondary
On Wednesday, February 28, the entire school came together to cheer on our boys basketball team. Students celebrated the hard work these student athletes put in to represent Muckleshoot. It was a close game and a tough loss. However, it was also a great step in uniting the school and promoting King Culture.
We are also excited to see so many students going beyond school walls and take advantage of the many outside learning opportunities presented at MTS. This week we will wave goodbye as our FCCLA members head off to learn at the national conference. 8th grade students and high schoolers will have the chance to experience Crystal Mountain and have hands-on learning experiences directly tied to Muckleshoot culture.
Also, both secondary and elementary students are joining together to start the No Place for Hate Initiative at our school. Be on the lookout for more information about the students and staff that are taking the lead in creating activities that encourage kindness and reduce bullying behaviors in our classes and halls. It will take a strong partnership between students, staff, and families to make real and long lasting positive change. But we know we can do it if we work together.
Athletics
MTS student athletes and teams provided many exciting moments this winter season. Their resilience proved to be their strongest attribute as they faced adversity throughout the entire season. The determination and commitment the student athletes showed to each other and their teams was rewarded by their Post Season appearances and awards.
Eddie Cormier-Higgins had a remarkable season, although it ended much sooner than anticipated at the Mat Classic this year. He qualified for his 3rd State Tournament in as many years and represented MTS in the best possible way this season.
The high school girls basketball team exceeded most everyone’s expectations under first year coach Tera Baker. This year they made it out of the SeaTac Playoffs and qualified for the Tri-District Tournament. They were able to close the season out winning 5 of their final 7 games giving positive momentum going into next season.
This season's Muckleshoot boys basketball team experienced the most success they have had in some years with a return back to Spokane and the B State Tournament. On their journey back to Spokane they won the SeaTac League outright, and with a team that graduates only 3 seniors the foundation has been laid to make this a regular occurrence for this group. With the SeaTac Coach of the Year Dora Davis, MVP Payton Brown, All-League Selections Cedar Korndorfer & Mikey Anderson all set to return, the team looks very strong moving into next season.
SeaTac All League Selections:
Girls Basketball
Sierra Nelson, So - 2nd Team
Boys Baksetball
Payton Brown, Fr - MVP
Cedar Korndorfer, Jr - 1st Team
Devin Sutton, Sr - 2nd Team
Mikey Anderson, So - 3rd Team
Dora Davis, Coach of the Year
