March 2024
King's Kick Start
Happy March!
We wrapped the month of February with a beautiful Black History Month celebration with guest speakers, community partners, salon services from our cosmetology students, and performances from our very own Tex-Anns, guitar, choir, and BSA members.
As we look forward to Spring Break next week, I wish to see many of our families on Wednesday, March 6 at our principal coffee and community conversation with Trustee Gonzales. You are invited to join us in person or via ZOOM. Please see the flyer below for more information.
I am looking forward to traveling over Spring Break. I am excited to see performances by our Crockett Jazz Band in New Orleans, and then head to the Great Smokey Mountains for hiking and relaxation.
Upon our return from the break, we begin the start our the 4th 9-week grading period, as well as AISD Pride Week March 18-22. The spring semester is full of memories, fun, and excitement, but typically flies by! I assure each one of our Cougars that with hard work comes great rewards. Stay focused and attentive to your grades, and find opportunities to make up attendance hours if needed. Graduation 2024 is right around the corner.
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, healthy, relaxing, and Always Victorious Spring break!
Shana King
Proud Principal

Congrats to February's Teacher of the Month, Ms. Robinson!
Each month, Student Council asks the student body to nominate their favorite teacher for the esteemed honor of being Teacher of the Month. Today Student Council is excited to congratulate our February Teacher of the Month, Ms. Robinson!!
According to her students, Ms. Robinson deserves to be Teacher of the Month because:
She is amazing and I love her.
She's awesome and great with communication
She is the sweetest and most caring teacher in all of the land
She has always worried, worked hard and makes sure her kids are having the best learning experience. She also always has a big heart for everyone even on her lowest days.
She's the best and funniest to hang out with.
She makes learning fun and I can tell she loves teacher her class. She's enthusiastic and very funny!
We had several amazing teachers nominated this month, so we also want to give a shout-out to all of our nominees! Check out what students had to say about why they nominated these other awesome teachers:
Ms. Oropez because she has been really helpful to students and cheers students to do their work and helps students. She always has a smile on her face and puts a smile on other students' faces too.
Coach Davis because she is patient with her students and actually listens to feedback from her students.
Coach Gloria because he the realest one and always checks on his students and athletes.
Profe Krautkraemer because he's a really nice person who always takes time out of his day to help us students do the best we can at school.
Mr. Cruz because they are arguably cooler than any other teacher in this school.
Mr. Tomlinson because he has the best teaching style at Crockett, hands down.
Mr. Irwin because he is a very kindhearted teacher who helps us make our art better.
Mr. Ward because he is a great chemistry teacher and I love his class.
Ms. Dunn because she's an amazing teacher who cares about her students dearly and she's a wonderful adviser for NHS.
Ms. Miller because they work so hard and are a great teacher.
Ms. Hope because she is an amazing mentor and has such an impact.
Mr. Sepulvado because they are the funniest teacher I have. They always find ways to make the class entertaining.
Congratulations, again, to Ms. Robinson and all of our other amazing teacher of the month nominees.

Health Reasons to Keep Your Child at Home
Fever: Temperature over 100º. Do NOT give medicine at home to bring the fever down and then send to school. If the child has a fever, they may be contagious and need to be kept at home.
- Your child must be fever free (without fever reducing medication like Tylenol or Ibuprofen) for 24 hours before coming back to school
- Redness of the “white part of the eye”
- Yellow, green or clear discharge from the eye (lashes may be stuck together)
- Itchy eyes
- Eyelids may be red or swollen
- The child must be cleared in writing by a US medical provider in order to return
- Everyone at home should wash hands often with soap and water and avoid touching the eyes
- If running fever, student must stay home until fever is gone and bowel movements are “normal” for 24 hours without using diarrhea suppressing medications
- Have student drink plenty of fluids and seek medical evaluation for persistent temperature and diarrhea
- Texas State Law requires certain immunizations for children to have in order to be in school. Notice will be sent home by the nurse to notify parent when shots are due.
- Persistent cough / cold should be seen by a medical provider to make sure there is no flu, bronchitis or pneumonia
- Any vomiting, especially with a fever or other symptoms.
- A minor sore throat is not usually a problem. A severe sore throat may be Strep even if there is no fever. Keep the child home from school and contact a medical provider to be cleared to be in school. Documentation from a US medical provider in writing is needed for clearance.
- Children with a skin rash should be seen by a medical provider to be cleared to be in school
