April, 2024
Dear Families,
As we welcome the blossoming days of spring, it’s time to reflect on the wonderful moments we've shared and anticipate the exciting events ahead. Our March was bustling with activity, from the exhilarating School Carnival to the diligent efforts of our 3rd and 4th-grade students who completed the Illinois Assessment of Readiness. These experiences not only fostered community spirit but also showcased the dedication and resilience of our students.
As we gear up for a well-deserved Spring Break starting on March 29th, I encourage everyone to take this time to rejuvenate and spend quality moments with loved ones. School will resume on April 8th, and we have some engaging activities lined up to kickstart our return.
On April 8th, we invite students to witness a spectacular Solar Eclipse viewing, offering a unique learning opportunity to explore the wonders of our universe. Following this, mark your calendars for April 18th, where families can join us for an enriching Math and Reading Night, strengthening the bond between home and school in nurturing academic growth.
Continuing our celebration of family, we have "Muffins with Mom" scheduled for April 19th, a heartwarming event where moms can enjoy delicious treats with their children, fostering cherished memories and connections.
Families, mark April 24th on your calendars for our much-anticipated Spring Concert, where our talented students will showcase their musical prowess, spreading joy and harmony throughout our school community.
For those with a sense of adventure, don't miss out on the thrilling "Touch a Truck" event on April 26th, an interactive experience allowing children to explore various vehicles up close, igniting curiosity and imagination.
Looking ahead, we are excited to announce Preschool Screening on May 1st and Kindergarten Screening on May 2nd, welcoming our newest learners into our school family with open arms.
As we embark on these upcoming events, let us continue to embrace the spirit of collaboration, curiosity, and compassion that defines our school community. Together, we will create memorable experiences and foster a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom.
Wishing you all a restful and joyous Spring Break, and I eagerly await our return to another month of growth and discovery.
Warm regards,
Jason Wynn

March Students of the Month

Solar Eclipse Viewing Monday, April 8th
On Monday, April 8, there will be a rare total solar eclipse. The Lacon/Sparland/Varna area will not experience a total eclipse but rather a partial eclipse (about 90 percent) at approximately 2 p.m.
Our school is planning a viewing opportunity to allow students to experience this unusual event.
Safety is always a top priority. We will take all precautionary measures to make this experience both safe and enjoyable. Students will be provided with eclipse-safe glasses to view the event. (Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun.) Students will not be permitted to look at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun through unfiltered cameras, telescopes, binoculars, or other optical devices. (For more information on the eclipse, visit https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/)
We will treat April 8 as a rain day for recess. All students will be kept inside for recess and physical education classes.
