Message From Onondaga Road School Principal
Hello Onondaga Road Families,
While visiting a classroom this week, the students were talking about the saying, “Spring comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.” I feel like the past couple of weeks are a perfect example of this saying. The calendar may state that Spring is here officially, but we are all looking forward to warmer weather.
We held our first “Battle of the Books” this week and it was a wonderful success. Thank you to our media specialist, Sarah Manley, for organizing this event. It was a great way to encourage our students to read and maybe dive into a book of a different genre than their first choice.
I want to remind all parents and guardians to log into ParentVue today. You will be able to access your child’s second-semester report card, providing valuable information about their academic progress over the last few months. We encourage you to review the report card with your child. It is a great way to celebrate their accomplishments and set goals for the remainder of the year.
Our leadership team called our Guiding Coalition, has started the process of reviewing the Panorama Survey information. This information will help the team set goals for the upcoming school year and reflect on our current practices. We are always looking for ways to improve. Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete this survey.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Respectfully,
Michelle Collier

Health Office Information
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As a reminder, please notify the Health Office of any and all student absences or tardiness. You can
notify the Health Office of your child’s absence by one of the following:
1. ParentVue (Synergy) – must be entered in prior to 9:30am
2. Phone call (315-487-4655). Our voicemail is available 24 hours a day for your convenience.
3. Email. (cheaphy@westgenesee.org) If you email your child’s teacher, please be sure to email the
nurse as well.
If your child is sick, it is most appropriate to keep them home from school. A child who is sick will not be
able to perform well in school and is likely to spread illness to other children and staff. Our school
guidelines state that you should not send your child to school if they have any of the following:
1. Fever of 100 degrees or higher in the past 24 hours
2. Vomiting in the past 24 hours
3. Diarrhea in the past 24 hours
4. Strep throat, or other contagious disease. Your child should be on an antibiotic for at least 24
hours before returning to school.
5. Bad cold, with congestion or bad cough, especially if it has kept your child awake at night.
6. Pink eye. Your child should be on an antibiotic for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
In general, your child should be fever free, no vomiting, and no diarrhea for 24 hours without the use of
medication, before returning to school. If your child becomes ill at school and the nurse and/or teacher
feel your child is too sick to benefit from school and is contagious to classmates and staff, you will be
called to pick up your child.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Dismissal Reminders
There are a couple of reminders that Officer Charlie and I wanted to share with parents who pick up their students at dismissal time. We ask that parents remain in their cars while they wait for their students to exit the building. We will only load students into cars at the sidewalk areas. If you are not next to the sidewalk, we ask that you wait until we can pull the next round of cars up to the sidewalk before your student gets in the car. These procedures will help to keep things moving along to help prevent traffic backing up and will ensure the safety of our students.
Also, please remember to send in a note or call the main office if you are planning to pick your student up from school. We know things happen and plans change unexpectedly, but informing the office of your dismissal plans will help the school ensure that we can quickly have your student ready for you.
The District Calendar for the 2024-2025 school year was approved by the Board of Education at their meeting on March 6, 2024.
