Message From Principal Adam Mitchell
This continues to be a very busy time at SHS with winter activities and athletics wrapping up, and spring activities and athletics just starting up. We wish our Band, Arrows Dance Team, and Girls Basketball Team the best in their competitions this weekend!
We continue to work hard on increasing our attendance at the school, and are continuing to work towards the goal that we set at the beginning the year of increasing the percentage of SHS students who attend 90% or more from 69% to 75%. We were right on track prior to last week, but took a big drop after having a school day on President's Day. While our rate did drop, many of our students who are struggling a bit with attendance can still finish the year above that 90% mark, and we encourage all families to continue to place an emphasis on attending school every day that they are healthy. Thank you for your cooperation with this goal!
This week, we'd also like to highlight the year-long work of our Youth and Government team! They had their conference in Salem this past weekend and here are some of the amazing highlights:
- Kylie Johnson presiding over the entire state mock government as Youth Governor, having run and been elected in last year’s conference.
- August Hartman presided over the Senate having run and been elected this year to the President of the Senate.
- James Applegate was voted Outstanding Senator by his peers.
- Trevor Tsui and Cassia Maciejewski were awarded the honor for Master Measure, an award given out to recognize excellence in measure writing regardless of the political popularity of the subject matter of the measure. It demonstrates an innovative approach or idea and shows creative thinking.
- Lydia McCoy and Theo Wolf did an excellent job this year serving as committee chairs for their bill committees.
- All of our Sherwood students made strong contributions to the conference!
Finally, our March staff meeting is comping up next week, please be sure to send in any Celebrate Sherwood Staff nominations as soon as possible!
Have a great weekend and Go Bowmen!
Mr. Mitchell
