From the Principal.... Matt Clark
Top of the afternoon to you, Thunder families!
This St. Patrick’s Day weekend, let’s talk about the luck of the Irish and why luck has nothing to do with the success of our amazing school!
Oprah Winfrey once famously said, "I believe luck is preparation meeting opportunity. If you hadn't been prepared when the opportunity came along, you wouldn't have been 'lucky.’” And boy, does that hit the nail on the head when it comes to Thompson Middle School. We don’t rely on four leaf clovers or horseshoes for our achievements; we create our own luck through hard work and preparation.
In our halls, luck isn’t about finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, it's about the dedication and commitment of our outstanding teachers. They don’t just wing it in the classroom, they meticulously plan lessons, refine their techniques, and continuously seek ways to improve.
What about TMS students you ask…they're not waiting around for a stroke of luck to get them through exams or projects. They understand that success is the result of hard work and determination. They dive into their studies, seize every learning opportunity, and make their own luck by being prepared for whatever comes their way.
So, as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, let’s remember: it’s not about crossing your fingers and hoping for the best. It’s about instilling in our students the belief that they have the power to shape their own destiny through hard work and perseverance.
May your day be filled with more than just luck - may it be filled with the joy of knowing that success is within reach when you’re prepared to seize the opportunities that come your way.
Wishing you a Happy St. Patrick’s Day and a wonderful weekend!

Please Complete the Illinois 5 Essentials Survey
Dear TMS Parents and Guardians:
One of the ways I get feedback is through the Illinois 5 Essentials Survey. Each year parents take this survey to let us know how we are doing as a school, and how I am doing as a leader.
Can you please take 10 minutes to complete this survey? I like to get to about 50% of our parents/guardians taking this survey, so the sooner we hit that target, the sooner I can quit asking you!
Here is the link to the survey. It is in Spanish and English.
Please be sure to put in Kane County as our county so you can find Thompson. Also, please read the questions and possible answers carefully as they sometimes mix up the "importance" of the responses.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Matt

TMS Staff vs. Students Basketball Game
We had a great turn out with more than 200 in attendance for our Staff vs. Students Basketball Game this past Wednesday! We had two TMS Choir students, Chloe and Crosby, sing the National Anthem to start the game. Everyone had a great time but in the end, the students prevailed winning 52-42. Until next year!

D303 Boundary Updates
The District 303 Board has approved boundary maps for elementary, middle, and high schools. Maps are effective with the 2024-2025 school year beginning this fall. The Board's decision completes a process that began last fall to reduce school overcrowding and help to ensure equitable learning experiences across the District. District 303 had contracted with demographer RSP & Associates to create concept maps based on Board-approved guiding principles and community feedback. Please see the parent notice from Superintendent Gordon to learn more and review the approved maps.
