How can our students become legendary?
I wanted to share some exciting news about our mascot! Before you look at the images, I wanted to say thank you to the students for their remarkable ideas. Here is the process we followed to select the mascot:
1. We met with every school to garner their ideas. Some students even shared images with me through email.
2. Over 220 students gave an idea for the mascot! I can assure you that our students are very creative! Some of the names will rest in my memory for eternity!
3. We took the top 10 common names and visited the Academies of Loudoun Graphic Design classes to propose, as an assignment, that they draw mascots for us to consider.
4. From those drawings, we decided on the mascot.
5. We then partnered with OG Media, graduates of LCPS, to have the mascot professionally designed. OG Media completed other mascots such as Thompson Elementary and Hovatter Elementary.
Now, I must admit, the mascot had to grow on me. However, I am super excited about it as it is unique to LCPS and lends itself to aspects we want our students at Watson Mountain MS to think about: we want them to leave a positive footprint on the world; we want to be legends!
Take a look at the bottom for our mascot!

WE ARE THE WATSON MOUNTAIN.......
YETIs!
One can say a lot about Yetis. Similar to middle schoolers, they are mysterious, and always on a unique adventure (often not approved by parents). To many, they are legends, and to others, they tend to leave their footprint on a trail of wonder. Like Watson Middle School, they are, and will always be, unique.
Our new assistant principal!
I'd like to formally introduce our new assistant principal, Ms. Kjersti Oliver. Her start date with us is April 1, 2024. Currently, Ms. Oliver is an assistant principal at Simpson Middle School, a school in which her footprint is legendary.
At Simpson, she was instrumental in the development of programs at the Amazon Web Services Think Big Space, fostered student leadership throughout the school and with a close partnership with Loudoun County High School, and lead professional learning at the school, especially with Simpson's math team.
Prior to her time at Simpson, she was a math instructional coach for all 17 middle schools in LCPS, and taught science and math at Mercer Middle School. She received her undergraduate degree in middle school education from Elon University, and her masters in administration from George Mason University.
Welcome, Ms. Oliver!
