Sewer Collection System Maintenance
We will be hiring a firm to clean and film approximately 5 miles of sewer collection lines starting in May or June. We will do our best to let you know which areas are affected so that you may prepare. It is critical that the sewer vents/pipes on your home or business are clear of debris. These vents allow sewer gases to be released to the atmosphere and not build up in your home, if they are clogged while crews are cleaning the Main Sewer lines pressure can build and eventually be released up through your bathroom fixtures, i.e. toilets and sinks and this can be messy. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to City Hall at 208-934-5669.
Gooding City Tree & Brush Yard
Crews are grinding last year's brush getting ready for this year. Please remember that only brush coming from residents in town will be accepted, if you own a home or business in town that doesn’t mean you can haul material from outside town to the yard. If the vegetation originates outside city limits it must be hauled to the Wendell Transfer Station or otherwise disposed of properly.

Building Department Reminder 🏡
We know that as springtime brings warm weather and sunshine, folks might get excited for upcoming projects and home improvements. The City would like to remind everyone of what projects require building permits and what project do not. Building permits are not required for one-story detached accessory structures used as tool sheds, storage sheds, playhouses, etc. when the floor area is less than 200 square feet. Building permits are also not required for painting, tiling, cabinets, carpeting, countertops, or finish work.
Building a new fence or replacing an old fence? Fences do require a building permit. The cost of the permit is $30.00.
When in doubt, please give us a call.
Clean & Weed Free Community
City of Gooding Residents & Business Owners:
We would like to remind everyone to please help keep our community clean and weed free. Property owners and tenants are responsible for weed control and property cleanup from the center of road to the center of alley. This applies to all industrial, commercial and residential areas. If you need help with disposal of larger quantities the City can provide a truck for disposal, some restrictions may apply.
We commend those who have already removed their weeds and worked to keep their properties clean. We ask those who have not yet removed weeds and or garbage to please do so ASAP. Failure to do so may result in a citation being issued for violating City Codes.
A clean community is a healthy community.
For further information please contact City Police Department at 208-934-8436 or City Hall at 208-934-5669.
This image is an example for citizens who live on a corner and those that don’t. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to maintain the area between the property and the center of the roadway and from the area between the property and the center of the alley.
River Wall Project
The Army Corp of Engineers began survey work along the river last week! The crews gathered information from about 75% of the properties they needed. We will be attempting to contact the remaining landowners to gain permission to survey through their properties. We expect them to return sometime this summer and again in October/November for more survey work. Once this information is collected design options can be developed.
Message from Mayor Diane Houser
We are so happy to share that we had the signing ceremony with the Army Corp of Engineers on March 28, 2023. The Project Partnership Agreement has been signed and we will be getting a new river wall from the area of Kansas St to Nevada St. with 5 new bridges and three pedestrian bridges. The USACE will perform a topographical/geotechnical survey of the wall. You will soon start to see surveyors working along the river wall, or you may have already seen them. Once the surveying is done the planning stage will begin. Once the project begins it should take approximately two years for completion.
I would like to address the comments that were brought up on Facebook. The funds for this project were obtained through the Water Resources Development Act of 2022 and a grant from the Idaho Water Resource Board. So, there will be NO increase in taxes or water fees for this project.
Also, yes, we received a Tap Grand and this will pay for our new sidewalks from 10th to Hwy26/46 junction. So, we will not be raising taxes or fees for this project.
The City Council did approve the purchase of a new computer program that will enable us to notify citizens when areas of the city roads are closed for maintenance or water line breaks. You will also be able to pay your water bill using this program. The app is called TextMyGov, it is online now. This will help us immensely and update you while the work on the river wall, bridges, sidewalks, and Main Street is being done. You will also be able to contact the City on this app when there is a water line break or a pothole that needs to be repaired. It is going to be a busy few years here in Gooding.
We have another new business that is opening in town. It is called Main St. 1908 operated by Mandy and Camron Carrico. Their restaurant will be serving hamburgers, steaks, pasta dishes, desserts, and many other dishes to choose from. They will be open 7days a week, Sun thru Tuesday, 11 am to 8 pm, and Wed thru Sat, 11 am to 9 pm. They should be having there grand opening soon. We are looking forward to it. Best of luck to Mandy and Camron.
It has been an interesting few months watching Les Schwab Tire Center being built. Every time I drive buy something new has happened, from pouring the footings to putting up the walls. This morning when I was driving down Main St, they were working on the landscaping. Lots of shrubs are being planted. I guess their grand opening is soon, but we haven’t heard when.
The City has helped the Chamber of Commerce place the planter brackets up on the poles down town. Each one has an inspirational word on top. Tom Woodland and his welding class did a fantastic job. Soon the Chamber will be putting out the flower baskets. This will help beautify our downtown area. Great job to all that have helped.
Just a reminder that Arbor Day is Thursday May 2, 2024. The Arbor Day celebration will be held at 10 A.M. at the USDA, 820 Main St. Gooding.
The Gooding Fun Day this year will be May 31st, 2024. Mark your calendars so you can bring the kids out for a great afternoon at the East Park.
I am working with a gentleman whom is going to do a movie in the park. He is going to show the movie on Friday, May 31st. We thought this would be a great ending for Gooding Fun Days. This will be held in the West Park on the south side. We don’t know what time yet but watch for more information. Make sure you bring a blankets and chairs to sit on. Also don’t forget your popcorn!
The Schubert Theater had a fundraiser last Thursday evening. It was well attended and very enjoyable. The theater is run by a nonprofit organization, Gooding Restoration for the Entertainment Arts and Theater, Inc., that has been working to restore the building. They recently had a new roof and drains put on and are working on the west side of the building. Their Board is made up of local residence of Gooding County. Mike Anderson is the President of the Board and you can contact him if you would like to help or find out more info on the theater.
Hope you have a great spring. Enjoy the warm weather.
