Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Subject Highlights:
Each week will focus on a department within the school and share their nominations with you. This week our English team will be sharing their nominations with you.
Miss Magnay has made the following nominations this week:
10AZ and 10CY have just started looking at their Power and Conflict Poetry unit for GCSE Literature. They have approached these poems with excellent focus and there have been some brilliant ideas from the class discussions. A special mention to Dylan, Szymon, Alessandro, Yagmur, Sol , Sian, Lottie, Alex, PG and Amelie for their insightful contributions.
11A1 have had an excellent start to the new term and are working hard towards their exams. The focus in the classroom has been fantastic.
Mr Mupingo would like to nominate 10 ATX students who are demonstrating exceptional proficiency in analyzing Power and Conflict poetry. Sean, Kevin, Mason, and Finley have exhibited outstanding dedication and skill thus far. In 7AB3 students are impressing Mr Mupingo with their hard work and enthusiasm, making them an absolute delight to teach. While it's tempting to highlight individual achievements, the collective effort of the entire class deserves commendation. Well done to all!
9AB3 students have seamlessly picked up where they left off last term, producing exemplary work. Their active participation in class discussions, orderly conduct, and eagerness to learn create an engaging teaching environment. Furthermore, their meticulously organized and tidy books reflect their commitment to excellence.
There's an undeniable buzz of enthusiasm in 9CY. For their consistent dedication, special recognition goes to Alex, Mirren, Olivia M, Kate, Scarlett, Harry and Jack.
Mr Toye has nominated the following Year 9 students:
Cristian L for incredibly mature and considerate responses to visual stimulus, Connor RW for "connecting the dots" and being able to infer a great deal from limited information and Leighton for working hard at meeting expectations and appropriately sharing his very unique and interesting interpretations.
Also nominated is Year 7 student Jessica (7ST) for her imaginative and creative responses to poetry and imagery and finally, Year 9 students Demi and Cameron who were both were both very mature with sensitive subjects and were able to recall high-level literary techniques.
Mrs Hegarty has made the following nominations:
Year 7 student Rhiannon for providing lovely answers when asked which prompt very impressive conversations. Year 8 student Charlotte D who always tries her best, especially in recent lessons, and has produced some brilliant work. Year 9 student Christopher BR for providing very insightful ideas into the current topic as well as fantastic extended writing. Year 10 student Sarah who always tired hard and has produced some very impressive extended writing. Finally Year 11 student Hollie who has consistently put 100% into her English lessons, asking important questions and responding with her own impressive ideas.
Mrs Evans has nominated 7AB2 as their work exploring the visual imagery in the poem Nettles by Vernon Scannell and identifying what this metaphor could represent. Mrs Evans was particularly impressed with Gary, Nyah, Adrian D, Brianna, Hollie and Myles.
Curriculum Focus:
Each week we will share with you what our students are learning in our focus departments this term, below you will find the topics for KS4 Science along with some questions you can ask your child.
Year 10:
Year 10 have been studying forces and examining Newton’s three laws. They have investigated how mass affects acceleration using light gates and trolley and have then been looking at real world examples of how we can use of knowledge of forces to make cars safer.
Questions:
1. What is the relationship between mass and acceleration
2. What is the difference between mass and weight?
3. Why does your weight change when you go the moon?
Year 11:
Year 11 are undertaking a bespoke reteach programme focusing on areas identified following the recent assessments and focusing on how to BUG exam questions. Recent topics have included how species have evolved by evolution, how atoms bond together and how to work out the velocity of on object.
Questions:
1. What is the genome?
2. What is the first thing you do when you are given an equation question in a science paper?
3. What are the 3 types of bonding?
