News & Updates K - 12 | Term 2 Week 3 | 29/4/2024
Principal's Welcome
DEAR PARENTS, GUARDIANS, STUDENTS & STAFF
Welcome back to school. Our school term started with a flurry of activity. ANZAC services were certainly a highlight bringing our communities together to reflect on the meaning of this special day. It was also great to see so many parents at the recent parent teacher interviews. The importance of parents, students and staff being connected is a special aspect of college life at Frayne.
YEAR 7 2026
The College is blessed to have a strong enrolment base. This term we have started our group interview sessions for Year 7, 2026. It is always a pleasure to meet prospective parents and students. The group sessions are a wonderful reminder of the diversity of student background, interests and parent expectations of our community. It is this diversity that is a special part of the magic of Frayne.
COLLEGE ENHANCEMENTS
The College is has two well serviced and unique campuses for our students to undertake their learning in. The College Leadership team and College Advisory Council are committed to ensuring our campus is enhanced to ensure our student's learning environment is optimal. Following a great deal of discussion and discernment Mr Richard Miles, the Chair of College Council, released the following statement in regard to the College's Current Capital Development Plan.
"The College Advisory Council met on Tuesday 19 March 2024. Following the recent, very inspiring commissioning ceremony, the meeting provided a general opportunity for the Council, with the College’s leadership team, to ‘take stock’.
This means stepping back and taking a long view, including a respectful and clear analysis of the many ways that the College has developed into the wonderful place for our children to learn and grow. While it remains early days in this process, it also involves a change in the orientation of our thinking with respect to the next steps, including the current trajectory of the College’s capital development planning.
This time for reassessment will continue to involve sensible and practical advice and decision-making. It is a time both for identifying opportunities and for optimism, with a view to making the College the best possible learning environment for all our children."
In short this means the plan to development capital works on Teague Street will not take place in the near future. There will be a redirection of capital planning which will have a focus on two key themes:
1. Refreshing and refurbishment of existing Duncan Street facilities. The aim will be to enhance our unique campus to be a flagship inner city college.
2. Reassessing our Capital Development plan to look at creative ways to meet our College needs on both Duncan and Balmoral Campuses.
These projects will take us into an exciting period for the College to ensure our students have the most optimal learning environment.

College Celebrations
ANZAC DAY CEREMONIES
Students and staff on both campuses commemorated ANZAC Day with solemn ceremonies showing their respect and gratitude to those who have bravely fought in wars and kept the peace so we can live with the freedoms we have today.
On the Duncan Campus we heard about Alec Bell (pictured below), a former student from one of our founding schools, Xavier College, who was conscripted into the Army and sent to Vietnam where he volunteered to become a medic. To read his story, as told by Paul Colombini, click on the attached PDF.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.

YEAR 11 DINNER DANCE
Last week, our Year 11 students came together to socialise at the annual Dinner Dance, held in the Rooftop Ballroom at Aloft. With the sun setting in the west it was a beautiful backdrop for their pre-dinner mocktails.
After dinner the DJ set out to pack the dance floor with an amazing repertoire of dance tunes that kept the students dancing and singing for the remainder of the evening.
As is the 'norm' for our students’, their behaviour was a credit to themselves, their families and the College and I'm sure it was a highlight of the year so far for them!

YEAR 3 RETREAT
On Tuesday 24 May we travelled to the John McGrath Pavilion in South Perth to experience the Year 3 Retreat. We learnt all about the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
The day was so much fun, we played games and joined in lots of hands-on activities. We really liked the experiment too. Thank you to 24:7 Youth Ministry and our Teachers for a great day.

Students are encouraged to donate cans of food to their Homeroom, where they will be collected and delivered to Shopfront, and then distributed to people in need.
Donated cans should be food only (no drinks) and preferably with ring pulls.

YEAR 10 FASHION & DESIGN
The Year 10 Textile students recently had the privilege of hosting a special guest in their classroom: renowned fashion designer Karen Elizabeth Young. In just 90 minutes, Karen left an indelible mark on our students, sharing her incredible dress sketches, showcasing beautiful garments, and recounting her journey to becoming the designer she is today.
Karen's visit was not only enlightening but also interactive. She taught the class how to create rapid designs, drawing inspiration from their recent project on lounge pants. The level of participation from our students was nothing short of amazing, with each sketch reflecting their burgeoning talent and creativity. It was evident that some future fashion designers were among them!
