It has been a great week at PLA93!

Our 3rd grade scholars took IREAD this week. Our teachers reported that scholars worked very hard. We are so proud of their effort! Next week, our 2nd grade scholars will be taking their IREAD assessment. Please help us in having students prepared to do their very best. During this week it is essential that scholars get plenty of sleep, eat breakfast, and arrive on time. For more information on IREAD, please contact your child's teacher.

Some of our 6th grade scholars attended the field trip to JRPLA today. They received a tour and learned about many of the opportunities that will be available to them when they attend there as scholars. Mark you calendars for March 18, 19, and 20 for JRPLA's Enrollment Fun Fair. This will be an opportunity for parents to learn more about the school as well. Registration is currently open to Phalen scholars but will soon open to the public. Reserve your child's spot at the premiere middle school on the far east side today!

PLEASE NOTE: PLA@93 scholars will not be in attendance on Monday, April 8 due to the solar eclipse. All scholars will be assigned work on Friday, April 5 to be completed as an e-learning day.

Our community spotlight this week is MISS BOSS hosted by CAFE. More details can be found below.

James and Rosemary Phalen Leadership Academy (JRPLA), Indy's premier middle school/high school, will be hosting an Enrollment Fun Fair beginning Monday, March 18 through Wednesday, March 20. This is an opportunity for you to learn more about the opportunities for you child's education as they transition to middle school.

This week's community resource is MISS BOSS hosted by CAFE. Miss Boss girls empowerment event is an interactive entrepreneurship workshop tailored for future Girl Bosses. Girls will learn basic entrepreneurship skills and direct expert instruction from one of three categories (cricut design, lip gloss creation, and pastry decorating) along with professional marketing advice to launch a youth operated business to success. Available for students ages 8-17 years old and must be accompanied by a female adult. The event takes place on March 23, 2024 from 11am-2pm. Please be aware that as winter approaches we are at risk for severe weather. In the case that school must be delayed or canceled, you can expect the following:

1.) All of the major Indianapolis news stations will be notified to broadcast the cancelation or delay.

2.) You will receive an email and phone call from the school notifying you of the cancelation or delay.

3.) Scholars will be provided with work prior to or after the event to complete for an e-learning day.

PLA@93 is enrolled in the Box Tops for Education program to raise money for our school! Box tops has done away with the traditional box tops clips, but now they have an app where you can scan your receipt and earn points instantly. Box Tops are worth $.10 each and they add up fast! Twice a year, our school receives a check to help pay for whatever we need - equipment, supplies or experiences the kids love! This is a very easy way to earn money for the school. All you have to do is shop, scan, and earn points!

4. The number of Box Tops earned with your receipt will be credited to the classroom you selected.
5. To see where your child's classroom stands on our leaderboard, open the Box Tops app, tap on the school card on the Home screen and check out Fall Leaderboard on the school dashboard.

Want to give credit for a digital or email receipt? Go into the Box Tops app, tap on the My Earnings button at the top of the screen and tap on the transaction you'd like to credit. Scroll past the list of products and tap on Give Credit at the bottom of the screen. Then, select your child's classroom.
