AI Pedagogy Project
At the Symposium Dr Julie Lindsay shared a new initiative, the 'AI Pedagogy Project: Augmenting learning and teaching in higher education through the use of Artificial Intelligence'.
Under this umbrella we plan to run monthly meetings and focus on Education Plan priorities including reimagining assessment.
Dr Nici Sweaney from AI Her Way - Guest Speaker
Nici spoke about the challenges of evolving AI use in higher education, with a focus on reimagining assessment approaches, and raised a number of important issues and key considerations.
Key Takeaways:
- AI Literacy is key.
- Clear and transparent guidelines for staff and students are required.
- Assessment reform needs to happen at scale, now.

Dr Douglas Eacersall
Douglas is the Senior Lecturer (Researcher Development & Applied Artificial Intelligence) and Learning Advisor (Higher Degree by Research) based in the UniSQ library. His research is shared in this presentation with a focus on the ethical and effective use of AI in education.
There is much to learn from the wisdom in what he calls the 'Principles of E.T.H.I.C.A.L AI use'.

Getting started with Copilot
Dr Lisa Jacka demonstrated how to access and some of the uses for copilot. The UniSQ licence doesn’t include access to using Copilot to assist with documents etc in 365. The main feature is as a Generative Text tool.

ICT Update: Copilot chat - UniSQ’s secure AI solution
On April 17, ICT released this information about copilot use and access for the university.
There’s a lot of interest around generative AI chat and used responsibly it can be a great tool to assist staff to be more creative and productive.
Copilot chat is enabled as UniSQ’s AI chat solution because it offers the power of GPT-4 with commercial data protection, including:
- Chat data is not saved – Chat prompts and responses are discarded, not even Microsoft can view organisational data
- No eyes-on access – No one can see your data
- Data is not used to train the external model – Chat data is not used to train the underlying large language models used by AI, preventing data leakage.
So, if you do choose to use a ChatGPT style system, please ensure you only use Copilot chat.
All browsers:
- Go to https://copilot.unisq.edu.au/
- Make sure you are signed into you UniSQ Office 365 account
- Check you see the green ‘Protected’ indicator in the top right hand corner
Quick look at Cogniti (GenAI tool)
Dr Lisa Jacka provided a brief overview of an exciting Australian made AI tool called 'Cogniti'. This provides for customised or tailored AI approaches e.g., HEA specific chat and information. Watch this space for more to come in this area.
