The Boerne ISD Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting in the BISD Board Room on Monday, April 15, 2024.

BMSS Students Led The Pledges
Thank you to the Boerne Middle School South National Junior Honor Society officers for leading the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge.
They also had great questions for our Board members!
Elementary Attendance Boundaries
The Board gave final approval to update elementary school attendance boundaries. The new boundaries create an attendance zone for Viola Wilson Elementary and provide enrollment relief for Fabra Elementary, Kendall Elementary, and Van Raub Elementary.

Rising 5th graders and their siblings will have the option to “grandfather” for one year, allowing them the option to stay enrolled at their current campuses. Families who opt to “grandfather” students are responsible for providing their own transportation.
Board Member Training
Boerne ISD Board members Carlin Friar, Garrett Wilson, Dr. Joe Tidwell, Kristi Schmidt, Maritza Gonzalez-Cooper, Jessica Davila, and Rich Sena have exceeded the required training hours for sitting board members as outlined by the State Board of Education.
Board Member Reports
- Briefed on the review of the critical incident at Champion High School and the subsequent action planning.
Finance Committee
- Reviewed the quarterly investment report ending on March 31, 2024.
- The General Fund carried about $15M more than the quarter ending in March 2023 due to a larger tax levy to cover the District’s portion of the entitlement under the state funding formula and recapture.
Communications Committee
- BISD will conduct a comprehensive third-party communications audit to assist the district to achieve enhanced two-way communications with internal and external stakeholders.
- The district will form a committee to assist with the website transition and redesign from Blackboard to Finalsite. Pre-work will begin in late summer/early fall.
- The P-TECH Health Science program, at Boerne High School, will open in August 2024 with 201 students.
- BISD is preparing for the inaugural Spanish Immersion classes set to start in the 24-25 school year, which will welcome two 1st grade classes at CCES.
- The annual Rock On Fundraiser was well supported by our community and the final fundraising total will be announced this week.
- The 2024 BEF Road Trip Week is May 13-17. This is an opportunity for BEF Board members and BISD Trustees to visit all schools and see grants-in-action.
PTO Committee
- The Viola Wilson PTO will receive donations from current PTOs to assist with start-up funds.
- The annual PTO Officer Appreciation Breakfast will be May 3, with BISD Culinary students catering the event.
Legislative Committee
- Lt. Governor Dan Patrick released Interim Charges for the Texas Senate.
- Some education-related charges are to study reading and math readiness, review the STAAR test redesign, and ways to reduce property tax burden to homeowners, among others.
- The Board will prepare to adopt legislative priorities for the 89th Legislative Session.
Reports to the Board
- Student Success and preparing students for post-secondary readiness.
- The benefits of P-TECH, including being engaged in relevant work-based learning experiences, taking college courses and certifications with the opportunity to earn an Associates Degree before high school graduation at no cost.
- Cyber Security P-TECH students have earned over 1,500 college credit hours, allowing BISD families to save a total of nearly $460,000 in tuition costs.

The Board heard a Mentoring report from Student Support Services, which detailed:
- The program currently has 50 mentor matches and is growing.
- BISD partners with Stand by Me Mentoring, which has paired 20 elementary and middle school students with mentors.
- The benefits to students and mentors are students receiving support, guidance, and encouragement, while mentors engage in meaningful involvement in the community, and have a sense of pride in the student’s progress.

- Approved the monthly personnel report

- Approved the quarterly investment report
- Approved contracts for Teachers, Nurses, Librarians, and Counselors for the 2024-25 school year.
Superintendent's Report
BISD is collaborating with the UIL to promote The Texas Way, which encourages good sportsmanship from students, parents, and spectators.
STAAR Testing is this week. Our students are well prepared. We thank our teachers and leaders for their hard work.
At the end of March, BISD’s enrollment was 10,972 students.
Van Raub Elementary’s Michel Joannou was named the NAESP National Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year for Texas.
BMSS Principal Matt Myers and VMS Assistant Principal Dayna Comley will present at the TEPSA conference this summer to share practices on reflective leadership to grow their campus staff.
Our CHS Theatre team was praised by Hays CISD for going the extra mile to assist the Hays HS Theatre team at a recent competition.
Dr. Craft surpassed the 60-day mark as BISD Superintendent and will be sending a community letter highlighting her Listen + Learn events.
