In the sports world, it's called March Madness. For educators, March Madness is very real. It is this long stretch of days between late February and Spring Break when there are no breaks, no holidays, no teacher workdays. Spring is on the horizon and the pent up energy of winter is ready to explode in just about every student. For me though, March might just be the most important month of the year. This stretch of uninterrupted school days is when the most critical portions of the curriculum unravel for students. It's the time when we start to drill down on efforts to remediate students before they head into the testing season or into summer school. It's the time when students are beginning to demonstrate the culimation of their learning efforts from September to now. It's MADNESS! And it's exciting to see.

My hope in March is that you will find some ways to talk with your child about the things they are learning in each of their classes. Find out some of the things they have learned over the course of this year and what has really captivated them, whether it was a particular project, unit of study, or learning experience. Most importantly, ask them where they feel they might need help. Let's work together to help them take ownership of their learning and to advocate for the help and resources they need to reach their goals as we move into the final "rounds" of the school year.

All of middle school does not have to be madness! Let's make this final stretch of the school year play out like the March Madness tournament: Championship Season. We should all be prepared and "playing" our best as we push to the finish.

Chesapeake Public Schools is providing an opportunity to purchase online and mobile tickets for ALL middle and high school athletic events (which includes all sports for home and away games). Purchasing tickets online permits fans to easily access and share tickets (email or text) without standing in line.

All middle and high schools will have a dedicated GoFan page for ticket sales. The service, which enables attendees to pay and access tickets electronically. The middle school tickets will be available prior to the start of their season.
