Black History Celebration
We invite families to join us on Friday, March 8, for a Black history celebration! Our theme this year is Black artists, and each classroom has studied a Black artist and is working on a visual representation of their learning that they can display in the hallways. We will host an assembly from 2:15-3:00pm (families invited!) that will feature a panel of local Black artists and student drumming and dancing performances. And after school we will open our doors so families can walk the halls to see everything our students have learned.
Movie Night Next Friday
Movie Night is coming next Friday, March 1! A free community event hosted by the PTA, this time we’ll be showing The Super Mario Bros Movie. See all the details below:
Where: School Cafeteria
When: Friday, March 1. Doors open and disco party at 6pm, movie begins at 6:30pm. Use the cafeteria doors behind the school for entry/exit.
Who: Irvington students and their families! Children MUST be accompanied by an adult.
Food and Drink: Free popcorn provided! Please bring your own water bottles filled with water only. Picnic dinners are ok, too. Thank you in advance for cleaning up after yourselves.
Seating: Bring a blanket or camp chair to sit on. Cafeteria tables are also available.
Disco: Enjoy some fun lights, music and dancing before the show and during a short intermission.
Next PTA Meeting
Please join us Monday, March 4, for a PTA meeting. This meeting we will be VOTING on the two proposals that were presented last month: using PTA dollars to fund a FENCE on the north section of the Irvington School property, and a new MESSAGE BOARD on the school grounds. Please come and make your voice heard in these important decisions. We hope to see you there!
Free dinner and childcare will be provided
Dinner served starting at 5:30pm
Meeting business begins at 6pm
We will also be hearing a new proposal to increase spending on after school scholarships this spring.
Connect to Kindergarten Event on Tuesday
Irvington's first Connect to Kindergarten event is coming up on Tuesday, February 27. Promoting Irvington School and encouraging families to choose Irvington is an important way to keep our enrollment steady and our community thriving. Help us spread the word about the event to your neighbors with incoming kindergarteners!
Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run registration is now open! You can register here. The lottery will be open for one week and then teams will be filled on a first come, first serve depending on space. Girls on the Run offers their own scholarships as part of the registration process. This will not conflict with a PTA sponsorship for after school classes. If you have questions, please contact Carolyn Sykes: csykes@pps.net
Spring Term After-School Classes
The Spring Term after school class offerings are now available! See all the offerings and learn more at www.irvingtonschool.com/afterschool/ or check the handout coming home with your student today. Registration will open Monday, March 11, at 6pm.
Students on free/reduced lunch can apply for a scholarship for one after school class each term! Scholarship applications can be found online here, or paper copies can be picked up at the front office. Applications can be filled out anytime and are due no later than Friday, March 22, at 3pm.
March Lunch Servers
Thank you to everyone who has been able to help serve lunch in the cafeteria so far this school year! March sign ups are now open - CLICK HERE to sign up! Interested in helping out? Start by becoming a PPS-approved volunteer here.
Yearbook Questions
If you have any yearbook questions, please relay those Ms Wich (kwich@pps.net) and Mr Ogletree (deogletree@pps.net). Ms Blum no longer oversees the yearbook.
Tacovore Restaurant Night Next Week
Tacovore Restaurant Night is coming next Wednesday, February, 28! Dine in or take out (no deliveries) from 12-8pm at the 3707 NE Fremont location and 10% of sales will be donated back to Irvington! See menu and easy online ordering here. And remember that families are responsible for supervising their children during restaurant nights. (During last year's Tacovore fundraiser, an unsupervised child interfered with waitstaff during service.) Thank you, Tacovore!
