The Maynard Public Schools began working on a math curriculum review in the Fall of 2022. The math review committee met monthly and has been chaired by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Charles Caragianes. This month, Green Meadow will be piloting two math curriculums, Kendall Hunt Illustrative Math, and Carnegie Learning Clear Math. All of our Grade 2 classrooms will experience lessons from both curriculums. Our math coach, Terri Morrision, will be working closely with the Grade 2 team throughout both pilots. Ms. Morrision will also be working with teachers in Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 3 to test out specific lessons from each of the curriculums. We are excited to begin this next step in the process.

Be on the lookout for your child's Read Across America book bag and challenge "suitcase" on Friday, March 1. Please help your child remember to return both items to school each day.

* The challenge will run from March 1 - March 15.

* Each Green Meadow student will create a "suitcase" with a map of the United States where they can log in their reading over two weeks by coloring in a state for every 10 minutes they read or are read to.

* Students will receive a 2 gallon zipper-sealed bag and will be invited to borrow books from classroom libraries, as well as check books out from our school library.

* The bags should return to school each day so that books can be exchanged and students can share their progress as they 'travel' across the country.

* All students who return their "suitcase" to school completed on March 15, will be entered into a raffle to win gift cards to our school book fair at the end of April. We will accept suitcases until Wednesday, March 20.

* The raffle drawing will be held Friday, March 22, and the winners will be announced.

We cannot thank our Green Meadow community enough for the generous donations of 2 gallon zipper-sealed bags for our reading challenge! We received more than enough so that every child can have a bag to safely transport their borrowed books and reading challenge between home and school.

This phenomenon has a name! It’s called restraint collapse, and while it is often challenging to manage at home, it can actually be a healthy response. MPY ANNOUNCES NEW PARENTING SOLUTIONS LIBRARY

Massachusetts Partnerships for Youth (MPY) is pleased to announce its new, free MPY Parenting Solutions Library. To date, over 2,200 videos have been borrowed. MPY is offering the MPY Parenting Solutions Library in partnership with Peace At Home Parenting Solutions, a non-profit located in Mansfield, Connecticut. Peace At Home Parenting Solutions is a dynamic hub of trusted knowledge and compassionate support that inspires parents to create positive change for their children, their families and themselves. Through this new partnership, MPY is pleased to offer proven resources to help students’ families thrive.

Peace At Home Parenting Solutions specializes in empowering parents with evidence-based strategies to foster nurturing connections that safeguard their children's mental well-being. When parents grasp the interconnection between the brain, body, and behavior, they experience reduced stress levels, resulting in less stress for their children.

The Peace At Home Parenting Solutions team, comprised of experts with advanced degrees, stays abreast of the latest advancements in child development. With more than 30 specialists focused on child and adolescent development, including specific issues such as difficulties in school, mental health challenges, neurodiversity, LGBTQ+ identity formation, handling racism, navigating grief, and other matters parents and our partners identify. These experts present easy-to-use strategies for long-lasting change.

Parents can watch or just listen to experts who get right to the point solving big and small challenges. The 24 library presentations focus on the topics below. Each presentation includes a 10-minute videos and handouts.

The Open Table Food Pantry (www.opentable.org; 33 Main St, Maynard) is open on Tuesdays, 3:30 - 6:30 PM and Thursdays, 1 - 4:30 PM and offers free bags of groceries 1x/week. Open Table also allows families to pick up frozen meals for family members weekly.

The Maynard Food Pantry (www.maynardfoodpantry.com; 82 Main St., Maynard) is open on Mondays from 10 AM - 12 noon 1-2x/month
