Dear Parents/Guardians,

Our district will be participating in the pilot testing of a new survey called the MI Student Voice Parent/Guardian Perception Survey on February 23, 2024. The survey will close on March 8, 2024. Topics covered in the survey fall into five categories: Interpersonal Relationships, Parent Involvement & Support, Parental Satisfaction, School Climate, and Belonging.

Additionally, students in grades 6th, 7th, 9th, and 12th are taking the MI Student Voice Perception Survey, which will capture information about their school experience, focusing on the areas of Engagement, Belonging, and Social- Emotional Learning. Our school educators will also be participating in a survey regarding their school experiences. We believe that using these surveys will allow our district to have a more holistic approach to improving measures of school quality in our school improvement plans.

The Parent/Guardian Perception Survey can be completed online using a computer, tablet, or mobile device. The anonymous survey is designed to protect your privacy and the privacy of your student(s). The survey has under 50 questions and is expected to take approximately 10 minutes or less to complete. You may access the survey using this link.

While participation is voluntary, we encourage all parents/guardians to take part in the survey, as we hope to gather meaningful information about your experiences.

Buchanan Community Schools is excited to share that we will be bringing the Hall of Fame Induction back in house! Nominations are open now through June 30, 2024. 2024 winners will be announced during an upcoming winter sporting event during the 2024-25 school year. 2023 Inductees were recognized this past spring.

We pledge our best efforts to make Buchanan Community Schools a premier school district, and we strive to create safe, welcoming, engaging, and innovative schools that develop all students’ academic, athletic, artistic, and social growth. But we do realize that sometimes something might not go right, or you might have a question about what we do or how we do it. We welcome that communication, and we will work to solve your issue for you as efficiently as we can.

In order to do that, we ask that you follow our Chain of Command process shown in the diagram. On the left side of the process chart, you will see the common areas of district programming, and then following to the right would be the next step(s) in the Chain of Command for that district program area. Please start by contacting the staff member listed in the second box of each program area. The contact information for our leadership staff members with responsibility for addressing concerns is listed at the top of the diagram. Other contact information for building staff is available on our website in the “Staff Directory” section of each building’s web page. It is expected that most issues should be able to be resolved at these initial steps in the Chain of Command.

Buchanan Community Schools is a school district located in Buchanan, Michigan. In 2020, Buchanan was named the Nicest City in America and is known for its community concerts and parades. Buchanan Community Schools has over 1500 students and over 200 employees. The school district has four schools based on grade bands, Ottawa- PreK-1, Moccasin-2-4, Buchanan Middle School 5-7, and Buchanan High School 8-12.
