Governor Inslee visits Tulalip to sign bills into law
Governor Inslee recently visited Tulalip to sign several bills, two of those being of utmost importance to the Tulalip and Marysville communities. The first naming the Since Time Immemorial curriculum after the late Senator John McCoy. Senator McCoy was instrumental in the early legislation to implement the curriculum in schools depicting the true history, culture, and government of local Tribes. The recently signed House Bill further outlines the requirements for school districts in the incorporation of instructional materials in the curriculum. Family and friends of the late Senator gathered around as the bill was signed. The bill was sponsored by State Representatives Lekanoff, Berry, Ramel, Rude, Reed, Donaghy, Pollet and Macri. Secondly, the Governor signed a handful of bills allocating resources to address and fight the fentanyl crisis. The bills seek to comprehensively address the fentanyl crisis throughout the state by improving opioid education, overdose prevention, treatment access, recovery supports, and first-responder resources.
Tulalip/Marysville Strawberry Smash Scramble
On March 19, the Tulalip Heritage High School Golf Team hosted a "Tulalip/Marysville Strawberry Smash Scramble" held at the par 3 course at Battlecreek Golf Course. Organized by Golf Coach, JT Kane, with support from coaches Mike Reynolds and Travis Marsh, four schools came together with their boys and girls golf teams from Tulalip Heritage, Marysville Pilchuck, Marysville Getchell, and Grace Academy. Marysville Getchell's teams took home the team and individual trophies for the first ever Strawberry Smash Scramble Golf Tournament. "It was great day to four community schools participating together, kids meeting new people and forming a camaraderie that will last a life time," said Rocky Verbeck, Marysville School District's Athletic Director.
Board of Directors Coffee with Constituents
Board of Directors Kristen Michal and Connor Krebbs recently met with parents, community members, and staff for coffee and conversation on Saturday, March 16. The next opportunity is scheduled on March 30 at Haggen from 9:00 - 10:00 with Directors Eliza Davis and Beth Hoiby . Spanish interpreter available.

Thank you to PTSA Council President Marjorie Arketa and the council members for the opportunity for district representatives Jodi Runyon, Director of Communications, Alvin Cooper, Executive Director of Human Resources, Sandra Madrigal, Administrative Coordinator of Student Services and Licensed Mental Health Therapist, and Ryan Ciganek, Licensed Mental Health Therapist and Uniting Stories (Marysville/Tulalip Community Coalition) Coordinator, for allowing staff time to present updates and information to the council at the recent meeting. Everett Community Colleges Hosts Students of Color Career Conference
Over 150 high school students had the opportunity to attend the Everett Community College Students of Color Career Conference on March 21. Known as the "SOCCC," the annual conference inspires students to consider their future careers through college, tech, or trades. The event hosts hundreds of students in the region and includes an inspirational keynote speaker and breakout sessions across the campus led by community leaders, business professionals, and campus staff. Quil Ceda Tulalip Elementary School student drummers, singers, and dancers, opened the event along with Chelsea Craig, Assistant Principal, and Tony Hatch, Native American Liaison, and other school staff.
