BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS - See something - Say something!
A robbery at knifepoint was reported to St. Pete Police in Clam Bayou a couple of weeks ago by a female riding a bike. We also had the police patrolling our community with patrol cars and helicopters, as they were searching for someone who was running from a crime. As always, it is important to lock your condos and cars and to report anything suspicious to the guards or a Board member. Just like the bird above, that found a lofty perch...it's good to keep your eyes open!
Even though our security hours have changed it is still important TO LOCK YOUR CAR and LOCK YOUR BIKES!!
Our new security hours are: 10:00pm - 6:00am Daily. We continue to have unwanted people on our property, so it is important to stay vigilant and LOCK YOUR CAR. Be sure that your keys or fobs, or anything of value is NOT visible from any car window. Any subspinous activity: please report to Bermuda Bay Security and the POLICE! If you get up during the night, just look out your windows. If you see someone going through cars, call the police (911) or at least the guard (727-212-9963). Or if you have a Ring or other personal security camera, check it every morning to see if there was any strange activity during the night. If so, let the property manager know. Never approach trespassers yourself at night. Always notify the security guard, or if a crime is clearly being committed, call 911 immediately.

St. Petersburg Police Dept's Property Survey
Recently, Chip Wells from the SPPD walked the property with Chris Boyd (board secretary), Peg Daisley (security committee), and Alex Prince (Allied security guard for Bermuda Bay). Mr. Wells is a Crime Prevention Specialist with the PD and was here to do a property survey. (Some of you may be very impressed with all the letters after his name – FCPP, NCPS, ICPS, CPTED).
Security Cameras
As we walked around, Mr. Wells noted where security cameras were, both official BB-owned cameras, and private owner-owned. He mentioned that the SPPD has a program called "Eagle Eye," in which private homeowners can register their private security camera with the police. They won't have access to your camera, but if crime happens nearby, they will know they might call on you to share security footage if your camera captured anything of note. Here is a link: https://police.stpete.org/eagleEye/index.html#gsc.tab=0 Just click on the button that says "Register for Eagle Eye." (Ignore the Q-code)
Lighting
As we walked around, Mr. Wells also focused on the lighting situation. At the end of his property survey, he said that fixing the lighting situation at BB is a higher priority at this time than getting more cameras. So, the security committee is going to do another property survey focused only on the lighting situation. The purpose is to be able to make informed recommendations to the board.
They learned, for instance, that although all the streetlights are owned by Duke Energy, Bermuda Bay COA rents them from Duke. Apparently, if we asked Duke to install another street light, they wouldn't charge to install, but they would charge to rent.
Mr. Wells also noted that there were a lot of lights that were out and simply needed a new bulb, and others that could be easily be fixed or transitioned to better, relatively less expensive and more efficient lights. He also noted many dark areas around the property that needed lighting, or just needed the lighting to be fixed – the worst place being the woods (playground and shuffleboard area), where there are plenty of lights, but none are working because the electricity feeding the lights was cut at some point. The property manager had already been soliciting proposals to fix the electrical situation in the woods.
Right now, we do not have a maintenance staff, even someone to just to change a bulb, but we should by the time we get the lighting survey done – hopefully by March 31. In the meantime, security committee members, along with security guard Alex Prince, will be checking each building's lighting situation and lack of lighting on the property. Peg Daisley is keeping a spreadsheet to collect the information about the lighting situation for each building, and all over the property. If you have any specific comments or recommendations about your building, please send an email to Peg at: mdaisley@msn.com.

BIKE REGISTRATION
SPEAKING OF BIKES...
Courts & Sports are also starting a BIKE LOAN, for those of you that visit and miss using a bike to venture out and explore. It's in the formation stages, as they have a men's bike, but are still looking for a women's and child's bike. They will chain them all together on one of the bike racks and provide a text number for a few members of the committee who could unlock them and get the waiver signed. Ed Braham will maintain them during our winter season when they would be most utilized. You can inquire through the office.
WEST GATE FINALLY GETTING A FACELIFT
The repairs on the West Gate started to take place on March 12, with Left Coast Construction boring a new pathway for the electrical conduit. The Electrical Connection will follow up with pulling the actual wiring to the guard shack. Fingers crossed!
SLOW DOWN...and check out our New Signs!
One of our owners took it upon himself to replace worn out speed limit signs at his own expense. We appreciate these...so now there is NO EXCUSE for speeding cars or zipping e-bikes! We have a lot of pedestrians here. It's 10 miles per hour here!
TAG SALE SPONSORED BY THE LANDSCAPING COMMITTEE
Let some IRRIGATION BEGIN...
Gail, from Landscaping, called the City of St. Petersburg Water/Utilities Department and spoke to one of their representatives. They confirmed that Bermuda Bay CAN WATER with reclaimed water on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, between 5-9am and 7-11pm.

Committee of the Month - Landscaping
We are the Landscape Committee. Meet Cindy Hansen, temporary Chair, Barbi Martinson, Barb Barnard, Pam Burns, Carole Cole, Tracy Corbett, Gail Cunningham, Peg Daisley, Donna Dranchak, Tory Elvir, Joe Filipello, Judy Giammarco, Alan Gowen, Tim Grady, Dennis LeBlanc, Bob McNally, Virgil Minchella, Jan Rogers, Robin Ward, Cindy Welsh, Margaret Young, Janet Zierath and other wonderful people here at Bermuda Bay who also volunteer to work with us.
Right now our goal is to help and inspire owners to clean up their areas and to plant non-invasive plants as needed. We’ve been working on these smaller projects for quite a while and each little job makes Bermuda Bay a little more beautiful.
The big news…our Committee has been working on a fundraiser to raise money to update the
landscape around the pool area at the bay pool. Some of the things we’re talking about are installing a walking path along the seawall behind the pool and pool equipment area; replacing dead bushes/plantings around the pool equipment fence; configuring a paver walkway to bypass and protect the putting green; low, small bushes to keep bicycles and golf carts off the putting green; removing old bushes by pool gate, planting new bottle palms, flowering bushes and flowers to create a better and more gracious entrance to the pool. We’re anxious to start this make-over and will be putting out the call for volunteer labor on several different occasions.
As part of our fundraising, we have been selling t-shirts, wine glasses, hats, beach bags and can
koozies. We were also the beneficiary of half of the Art Marche proceeds, and full beneficiary of the
Masquerade party proceeds. We most recently held a Bermuda Bay tag sale and those funds will also be added to the pool project. We will also be setting up a Zelle account for the Landscape Committee for receiving donations to our projects. This Committee has an exciting vision and we will be doing everything we can to make Bermuda Bay look like the PARADISE it is. Please help us however and whenever you can.
BERMUDA BAY SWAG MAY BE PURCHASED IN THE OFFICE NOW
The Bermuda Bay merchandise is now available for you to purchase directly from the office. Please go check out the merchandise and stand by for the Bermuda Bay front license plates due to arrive approximately the 25th of March.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE NEWS
So the news is that there is no formal social committee any longer. We tried to get someone to take over the leadership of this committee for several months to no avail. So in order for parties and social events to continue at Bermuda Bay we tried to come up with a solution that can work for everyone.
If you are an owner at Bermuda Bay and you want to host a party and use the Clubhouse/kitchen and upper deck for an event that will serve ALL OF BERMUDA BAY RESIDENTS, you can secure the facility with a REFUNDABLE $100.00 deposit. You will need to sign the rental agreement and then check out with the office after the party to get your money returned to you. Once you pay your deposit and sign the agreement - your event can be secured onto the calendar and email blasted out to the community. We feel with this manner, any Owner can host a party for the community and more people will have the opportunity to do so. We have some fantastic party planners in our community and we hope that they will continue to share their gifts and talents with the Association.
Nothing will change for individuals that want to host a private party. There will be a $100.00 rental fee and a refundable $300.00 deposit with a completed checkout by the office. This is a small way for Bermuda Bay to make a little money to put back into the clubhouse, keeping it fresh, workable, and stocked with items needed for the kitchen.
Treasurer’s Report March 20, 2024
The numbers I am reporting are as of February 29, 2024
Bank Accounts
In total, we have bank balances of $797k.
Operating Account
The operating account balance is $196k.
With only two months of data, it is not practical to assess where we are with the budget. We do know that insurance will come in higher than planned.
Reserve Fund
The Reserve Fund currently has $273k in the bank.
The re-roofing of two buildings will start in early April. In addition, there were 15 buildings that required repair to satisfy City citations. Total cost is $89k.
Delinquencies
Delinquencies amounted to just over $30k.
Last month, I reported a delinquency total of $23k. That did not include $7k that relates to the 2022 Special assessment. The correct total for January was $30k. There was little change during February. Most of the accounts in arrears are relatively small amounts. The larger balances are with the attorney for collection.
Balcony Deposits
We have $273k in deposits from owners for extended balconies.
The collection of outstanding deposits for four units is under review with the attorney. If those owners do not respond in a timely manner, we will instruct the engineers to rework the applicable construction drawings and assess the owners for whatever costs we incur. Time is of the essence as the construction permits are starting to come in.
Don't Forget to Fill out the ARC form to keep balcony/lanai dimensions on file
