Our Secondary Schools Shine Superior at the SCSBOA Ratings Festival
This past week, ensembles from our secondary schools' music programs had the opportunity to showcase their musical talents by participating in the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) Ratings Festival hosted at Camarillo's Rancho Campana High School.
The Festival is not merely an assessment of ensembles, directors, and student performers, but a celebration of hundreds of hours of hard work. Bands and orchestras performed 2-3 selections from the SCSBOA prescribed music list of varying styles, genres, length, and composers.
All ensembles were adjudicated by a panel of three judges from the SCSBOA. Judges are current or retired band and/or orchestra directors with years of teaching experience. Judges evaluate six areas of performance and assign letter grades to those areas: "A's, B's, and C's." An "A" average earns a "Superior" rating, "B" average earns "Excellent," "C" ratings earn a "Good" rating. A "Unanimous Superior" Award is giving if all three judges award a superior rating.
Congratulations to all of our scholar-musicians who participated in the Festival for your dedication and hard work, including the below ensembles which earned Superior ratings:
🏆 Unanimous Superior:
- Newbury Park Strings Orchestra
- Redwood Orchestra
- Los Cerritos Chamber Orchestra
- Sycamore Canyon Strings
- Colina Strings
- Los Cerritos Advanced Band
- Westlake Chamber Orchestra
- Thousand Oaks Wind Symphony
- Thousand Oaks Wind Ensemble
🏅 Superior:
- Sequoia Strings
- Colina Symphonic Band
