This is not mandatory, but students have thoroughly enjoyed this in the past. Some of the books series that are offered are the following:

We continue to remind students to be respectful, responsible and safe in all of the areas of our school. Please also review voice level expectations in our common spaces such as the cafeteria. Thank you for your help and support. You can see our behavior expectations below.

Learn about school districtʼs budget
The School Board approved the FY 2025 budget at its Feb. 22 meeting. Budget details are available online, as is a video of the School Board meeting. The school system’s $913.7 million operating budget reflects commitment to continued educational excellence and addresses three sets of priorities:
Compensation and required increases: Providing a 4% salary increase to employees and allowing for increased costs for services and state-mandated increases
Maintaining service levels: Continuing the quality education and support services our community values
Additional needs: Addressing other needed items for schools based on final state revenue numbers
Through this video message, Superintendent Mervin B. Daugherty encourages families to advocate for state funding for schools by reaching out to state legislators. Find out who your legislators are by clicking here.

Video guide and other resources for families of
Guide to special education: Available from the Virginia Department of Education is the Virginia Family's Guide to Special Education. The department developed this new guide to help those involved in special education, whether as families, teachers, school administrators, advocates or students. Meeting the needs of children with disabilities requires an understanding of rights and responsibilities, which include the child’s rights and the school’s responsibilities to meet their needs. This guide includes a description of the special education process and what is required during each step of that process. The guide is currently available in English; translations will soon be available in Spanish, Arabic, Amharic, Urdu and Vietnamese.
New video guide: The Virginia Department of Education has released a video guide to the special education evaluation process. These video modules provide parents, families and other stakeholders a brief but comprehensive overview of the special education process on these topics: introduction to video series, identification, evaluation, eligibility, individualized education program, reevaluation, early intervention and what’s next. Each module is designed to be viewed as a stand-alone resource or viewed in succession.
Website: Lots of helpful information is available on the special education for families webpage of the Virginia Department of Education.
Workforce training, enrichment classes, GED assistance and English language skills are offered. Here are a few specific classes scheduled this spring:
practical nursing
heavy equipment operator training
veterinary assistant
cosmetology
Medicare basics
drumming
digital photography
cake decorating
CPR
- Parent and family consultations available free: Parents and caregivers are invited to consult with experienced professionals to talk through topics such as parenting stress, effective discipline, tantrums, helping around the house, healthy relationships, bedtime, preventing risky behaviors and more. Meetings can be in person, by phone or virtually with consultants in the Prevention Services Office of Chesterfield County’s Mental Health Support Services. For more information or to schedule a free consultation, email the Prevention Services Office or call 804-768-72120.

March PTA Updates
It's hard to believe the 3rd quarter will be finished in just a few short weeks. We aren't slowing down any time soon either!
Our Spring Membership Drive just began. All members that have joined by March 14 will be entered into a raffle to receive a free gift with spring pictures. If you are receiving this email, you are already a member and will be included in this raffle. Thank you for being a member of Spring Run PTA. Any and all classes that reach 100% membership by March 22 will receive a Freeze Pop Fiesta AND extra recess time one day before spring break. So encourage your friends to join too!
One initiative the PTA aimed for this year was to get a grade level color T-shirt into the hands of each student. We are currently collecting T-shirt sizes for all students and staff. There will be some grade level color spirit days, and this shirt can be worn for Field Day in May (there will be no separate Field Day T-shirt sales this year). Find the T-shirt size order form below.
The PTA is hosting two separate dances this month. A K-2 Dance is scheduled for Friday, March 8, and a 3-5 Dance is scheduled for Friday, March 15. While entrance is FREE for all, we are asking everyone to reserve tickets in advance. A ticket is good for one student and one special adult they'd like to attend with. Ticket reservations will cut off one week before each dance, and tickets will be delivered to classrooms the week of the dance. (The window to reserve K-2 Tickets is closed. Find the link to reserve 3-5 Tickets below.)
Spring Picture Day will be Thursday, March 14. Our PTA Meeting is schedule for Tuesday, March 19. And we will be recognizing World Down Syndrome Day on March 21 with a Crazy Mismatched Socks Spirit Day.
As mentioned last month, our PTA has partnered with Code Ninjas for some spirit events scheduled throughout the remainder of the year. The remaining dates are 3/23, 4/27, and 5/25. Sign up for the one that works with your schedule.
Our Spring Enrichment classes will end on 3/20 (Wednesdays), 3/26 (Tuesdays), and 3/28 (Thursdays). We are hoping to pilot a morning enrichment program starting the last week of April. Look for more information on this in our next newsletter.
Please note Friday, March 22 is an Early Release Day, and Friday, March 29 is a NO SCHOOL Day. Spring Break is from April 1 to April 5.
5th graders can order yard signs until Sunday, March 17. Husky Shout Outs will then open for purchase on March 18 through Friday, May 3.

Volunteer of the Month!!
Congratulations to Brenda Starr, the Spring Run PTA February Volunteer of the Month!
We are so fortunate at Spring Run to have a staff that is so supportive of our students and the work of the PTA. You can ask our Programs VP - it is not easy to plan an event for hundreds of people on your own. Ms. Starr spent a lot of her personal time, in conjunction with PTA, to help pull off one of our recent large scale events. Without Ms. Starr, our STEAM Night would not have been possible.
Ms. Starr will receive a $15 gift card to Amazon, and will get to park in the Volunteer of the Month parking spot until our next meeting on March 19. Thank you, Ms. Starr for all of your contributions to our PTA!
Thank you and congratulations again!
