Also, when we return to school, students will work on analyzing literary techniques authors use to create fiction stories. Students will read the short stories titled, “Eleven” and “Amigo Brothers” and look for techniques in the stories such as; figurative language, characterization, perspective and character interactions.
Social Studies:
This week in social studies we finished up learning about the Protestant Reformation in Europe and specifically in England. We examined the beliefs and impacts of reformers such as Martin Luther and John Calvin, studied the less noble reasons (IYKYK) the R eformation occurred in England, and looked at the political and religious roles of Henry VIII and Mary I in England’s transition between Catholicism and Protestantism. Students also spent some time studying the Catholic Counter-Reformation, which was the Catholic church’s response to the Protestant movement. We looked at the impacts of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Jesuits, and the Council of Trent. The week ended with a quick investigation of the Tudor Golden Age with Elizabeth I and her contributions to making England a world power. Next week we will review using the Quizizz platform and students will take the assessment for the unit.
Science:
We are in the final stretch of our standards with 3 more left. We just completed our work on the Carbon Cycle with a quiz today, please encourage your students to complete quiz corrections as needed. Next week we will begin connecting our learning to human impact on Earth and our Atmosphere.

We have enjoyed getting to know them this year.

Unit 1, The Art of Suspense, is going well. This past week we dug deep into "Lamb to the Slaughter" reading, completing text dependent questions, and further analysis questions. This short story focuses on dramatic irony and is written by a familiar children's novel author, Roald Dahl. The students remember reading James and the Giant Peach and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in elementary school. Next week we will focus on list 2 unit vocabulary and "Tell-Tale Heart" by the brilliant Edgar Allen Poe.
Dominate 28
March 28
Last week we recognized March 28th as DOMINATE 28 Day in 8th grade. We wanted to bring awareness to the number 28 because that is the number of credits current Anderson High School students are required to earn for graduation. This year's 8th grade class also happens to be the graduating Class of '28. They started off the day with a pep talk from Mr. Weaver and then had special lessons in their classes dedicated to the number 28. A HUGE shoutout to our 8th grade and Related Arts teams for their support with this event! The highlight of the day was their encouragement to LOUDLY respond to any teacher who said "DOMINATE" with "TWENTY-EIGHT!!!", be it in class, in the hall, or at lunch. We hope this awareness will put our 8th graders in the mindframe for earning their credits for high school.
