Message from Dawn & Cam
We are thrilled to share that Her Honour Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, Salma Lakhani, recently visited SAM School. This special occasion was not just a visit; it was a profound learning experience for all of us. Her Honour spoke with eloquence about her distinguished role within the government and shared insights into her inspiring life story that left us all in awe. What resonated deeply with our students and staff was her emphasis on the importance of listening and learning from the stories of others. In a world teeming with voices, Her Honour reminded us that understanding and empathy are forged in the quiet moments of attentive listening and, that regardless of your story or journey, Canada is a land of hope.
We were also incredibly honored that Her Honour took the time to tour our school, delving into the heart of our work in truth and reconciliation. Her genuine interest in how we are growing in the areas of inclusion, diversity, and respect was both affirming and inspiring. This visit underscored the significance of our efforts and highlighted the path forward as we strive to create a community that celebrates every individual's story.
Our heartfelt gratitude extends to Her Honour for not only gracing us with her presence, but for leaving us with valuable lessons and a renewed commitment to our mission. Let's carry forward the spirit of empathy, understanding, and respect we've been so graciously reminded of, making our school and community stronger, together.
We wish you all a wonderful Spring Break sharing time with your loved ones, and we look forward to seeing you all back at school on Tuesday, April 2nd.

SAM Showcase
It is that time of year again…time for our SAM Showcase. We know all of our students have special talents and interests and we would like to highlight as many of them as we can!
Students will be given the opportunity to showcase their talents in various fields such as dance, comedy, martial arts or musical instruments. We have a designated "art gallery" for students to display their arts and crafts, a "collections and hobbies" station for showcasing their collections, and a "project" station where they can set up their science experiments or projects.
Our SAM Showcase will take place on Thursday, May 16th. The “performers” will display their talents and interests throughout the school. Parents are welcome to come and tour as they please!
Please refer to the attached link to view the categories and criteria. If a talent or interest is not listed, please describe it on the form and we will fit it in.
Please sign up by Wednesday, April 17th. To ensure involvement in the SAM Showcase, students must also attend mandatory meetings and practices with their teacher coach.

SAM Spirit Awards
Each month at our SAM Spirt Assembly we will recognize the incredible contributions of our students, staff, and volunteers who help make SAM an amazing school to come to every day. The SAM SPIRIT Award is a monthly themed award where teachers choose two students from their class to recognize for demonstrating our SAM SPIRIT qualities. This month, we recognized students who "Donut Give Up". Congratulations to our SAM Spirit Award Winners!

DRAFT Social Studies Curriculum - Public Engagement
Alberta Education is seeking feedback on the Draft Social Studies curriculum that was recently released by the Minister of Education.
Albertans can provide input on key learnings within the new draft K-12 social studies curriculum through a feedback form on Alberta.ca. Albertans’ feedback will be used to further refine the new 2024 draft K-6 social studies curriculum before its expected release in the spring to help school authorities and teachers prepare for optional classroom piloting during the 2024-25 school year.
Everyone is able to visit Alberta.ca to view the new draft curriculum documents and complete the feedback form by March 29, 2024.
