GLOBE attend Charter School Day at Georgia State Capitol
February 21 was Charter School Day at Georgia State Capitol. Representatives from The GLOBE Academy, Christi Elliott-Earby (Executive Director), Clarence Brantley (8th grade Social Studies teacher), Daphna Malka (GLOBE parent and part-time French teacher), and Adaya Malka (8th grade student), were recognized in the Senate and the House. They were able to speak with Scott Holcomb, a member of the Georgia House of Representatives for the 81st district in which The GLOBE Academy resides, and request his support for charter school legislation. The event was sponsored by Georgia Charter Schools Association (GCSA).
Community comes together at New Black Wall Street
Thank you to everyone who came out and joined us at New Black Wall Street in Stonecrest on Sunday afternoon. Attendees took a tour where they learned about the story of the original Black Wall Street in Tulsa. They also enjoyed visiting the many shops and restaurants on site.
STAMP Testing in March
Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade will take the STAMP exam in March. STAMP is the STAndards based Measure of Proficiency from AVANT, a computerized adaptive exam showing a student's language proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
There are two STAMP exams used at GLOBE: the 4SE is for elementary, and the 4S is for middle and high school students. Kindergarteners will take the listening section of the 4SE, 1st grade will take the listening and speaking sections of the 4SE, 2nd through 5th grade will take reading, writing, listening and speaking on the 4SE, and students in grades 6–8 will take the 4S.
As a Dual-Language Immersion (DLI) school, we hold school-wide STAMP Testing to monitor program progress and individual student progress in language acquisition. STAMP is one of the data points considered in recommending students for the AP Exam or for Accelerated track in Middle School. STAMP is also used to identify students needing support from Language Support Assistants in elementary language classrooms.

Read Across America Day on Monday
Kindergarten through 3rd grade students will be celebrating Read Across America Day on March 4. In the past, we've celebrated across two days, but this year the parade and dress-up will all take place on the same day.
Students may also choose to bring or donate a book about a child with exceptionalities. Find sixty-plus books here. We hope to add to current classroom libraries so they can be even more robust and reflective of our diverse community. Reading diverse and inclusive books in the months to come might help your student find a book that has people with whom they identify. You might even find one here. Looking for more book recommendations by theme? Click here!
Author Brendan Wenzel to visit on Thursday, April 25
Author/illustrator Brendan Wenzel will be visiting Lower Campus on Thursday, April 25 to talk with our kindergarten and first grade students about his new book, Two Together. If you would like to order a signed copy of Brendan’s books, They All Saw a Cat, Inside Cat, or Two Together, please complete this order form.
Chorus news
The 5th–8th grade GLOBE chorus students dressed up and welcomed Black History Month with the world renowned Morehouse College Glee Club. The students enjoyed a performance that took them on a journey through the evolution of African American music.
All families are invited to support the chorus on March 20 at our adjudication, LGPE (Large Group Performance Evaluation). We will have a ten minute performance at 9am sharp at the First Baptist Church of Decatur. Your presence will mean a lot to the students.

Exceptional Children’s Week - March 4–7
PTCC is happy to partner with GLOBE to celebrate Exceptional Children’s Week. The theme for this year is “CREST Embraces Everyone.” Here are a few initiatives we hope your family will consider supporting:
PTCC donated books highlighting people with exceptionalities to all English classrooms. Watch for opportunities to participate in mystery reader activities in your child’s classroom.
Create a poster with your student(s) celebrating a person with exceptionalities by March 4th. Once you complete it and send it to the school, it will be displayed in a classroom or hallway. Projects will be accepted any day during Exceptional Children's Week; simply send them to school with your child.
PTCC is also helping to coordinate and sponsor staff Professional Development, which will focus on best practices to support children with exceptionalities. Download the flyer here.

Here are some ideas to get you started: Avery No-Iron Kids Clothing Labels, Sharpie Fabric Marker, and Mabel's Labels (customizable labels and stamps, dishwasher and laundry safe. Enter "The GLOBE Academy" in the "support a fundraiser" field, and they'll donate 20% back to GLOBE!).
Volunteer hours can help GLOBE receive grants
Did you know that when you volunteer, it can help GLOBE receive grants? Some donors want to know how involved the community is. We can show them that parents are invested in the school by sharing the volunteer hours we have tracked. So please remember to log your hours here. When you log your time, you'll also be entered in our drawing for a volunteer-of-the-month carpool flag. As a reminder, each family is requested to volunteer ten hours each year. To see current volunteer opportunities, click here. Thank you for volunteering at GLOBE.
Shopping can help GLOBE!
Did you know when you shop at places like Publix, Kroger, and OfficeMax/Office Depot, they will donate to GLOBE PTCC? To find out how to easily set this up, click here. Every penny counts!
