Student of the Month - Teagan Candiotti
Student of the Month - Ashton Merkel
After coming back from spring break, we were reminded of our rules and routines. The weather is getting nicer, which means we are super excited to get outside and practice zipping our jackets! We have been focusing on weather, spring, and flowers!
On April 12th, we invited grandparents and other special family members for a Grandparent's Day celebration. The students sang a song, played games, and did crafts. It is always fun getting to show another family member where we learn and all the fun things we do at school!
We look forward to beginning Eric Carle themed activities for the school-wide Literacy Week!
Congratulations to our April Students of the Month: Teagan Candiotti & Ashton Merkel! These two students show kindness to their peers!
Kindergarten
Miss Chitwood's made a kindness chain.
Mrs. Livingston's Class made Cat in the Hat masks.
Mrs. Paes' Class was ready for the solar eclipse.
March and April have been busy in kindergarten! We started off March by reading books by the wonderful and creative author, Dr. Seuss. Kindergarteners enjoyed reading his silly stories that are full of rhymes and fun characters. Students even created their own characters and made green eggs and ham and ooblek!
April was filled with a new appreciation for nature. We anxiously awaited the solar eclipse and were so thankful to have the day off to experience this event with our families. It was certainly something we won’t forget! We read about spring and discussed signs of the season. The students are really looking forward to the warmer weather. We also learned about Earth Day and things we can do every day to help protect our Earth.
In writing, we started working on our personal narrative pieces. Students brainstormed topics that they could write about. Then they chose one of those topics and began to sketch out what happened in the beginning, the middle and the end of their stories. Students then created a more detailed picture to illustrate their stories. Finally, students wrote sentences to tell us what happened in their story. It was fun seeing the kindergarteners become authors and illustrators.
Our next writing project will be an informational writing piece. Students will think about things they know how to do on their own and write detailed steps and illustrations teaching the reader how to do it.
In math, we have been learning different strategies to help us solve addition and subtraction equations and story problems. Some of the strategies we are learning to help us solve are using a number line, using our fingers, using snap cubes or other manipulatives and drawing pictures.
We are looking forward to starting our ABC Countdown to the last day of kindergarten!
Congratulations to the March and April Students of the Month: Zack Calapa, Connor Bennet, Ramona Grabowski, Ethan Miller, Waylon Andrews, Elise Brode, Kennedy Harbert, and Reina Thompson.

Tadpole to Frog Lifecycle
We are ready for the Eclipse!
First Grade Marches on!
March was shorter than usual with spring break being at the end. We still managed to pack some fun into the month. First graders started to learn about space to help lead into the Solar Eclipse. We felt very prepared and safe for the event.
With the coming of spring, we talked about life cycles in science. Mrs. Beach’s class had Tad the tadpole for a few weeks. He wasn’t feeling too good and we decided that he was lonely for other tadpoles so we released him back to the pond. We are wondering if he has a tail anymore or if he is a frog yet.
Spring break came and went and now we are in the long stretch of the year. We will try to do outdoor activities to enjoy the weather (if it ever stops raining). April and May go very quickly with all the planned activities.
The First Grade teachers would like to recognize the Students of The Month this year (so far).

From the Desk of Mrs. Craine
Dear JAG Elementary Families,
Our first JAG Club Day was April 19th. It was amazing to see all of our students engaged in an activity of choice. We will have another club day on May 10th. As seen in the picture, gardening club did a wonderful job making the entrance of our building beautiful with new flowers in our pots.
Mr. Logan and the 2nd grade students had an amazing performance last night at their program. It was evident they had been working very hard learning the songs this school year.
As we approach the final month of the 2023/2024 school year, I wanted to share some updates and reminders with you. We've had an incredible year of learning and growth.
Here are a few important notes:
1. End of year celebrations: Please make sure you view newsletters from your child's teacher and PBIS messages for specifics on end of the year festivities.
2. Continued Learning: Even as we near the end of the year, our learning continues! Let's make these last weeks count by encouraging our students to stay engaged and curious.
3. Summer Preparation: We'll also be sharing resources and tips to help keep learning going over summer break. Teachers may send activity calendars as well.
Happy Spring,
Mrs. Rachelle Craine I PreK-2 Principal

2024 Solar Eclipse
The solar eclipse of 2024 was an amazing, once in a lifetime sight! In Garrettsville, we were able to witness a complete solar eclipse. The path of the eclipse extended from Mexico, through the United States and into Canada. A solar eclipse is where the moon crosses to cover the sun. When it comes to totality ( where the moon completely covers the sun) you can take your solar eclipse glasses off for about 1 minute. Totality only lasts a total of 3 to 4 minutes. Then the second partial begins. The second partial lasts about as long as the first partial. A full solar eclipse is always a truly amazing experience!

Fourth Grade and Community CLUB DAY!
Written by: Olesya Barnosky, Grant Haddox and Kendall Swigonski
The Elementary students had a whole bunch of fun with Community Club Days
It is awesome! The students were very excited after signing up during their library time.
There were so many activities to choose from, 45 options in total! The kids got to decide which one they chose. Some clubs included hiking, crocheting, playing uno, pickleball, and many more! The kids were so excited about having so much fun doing their Community Club Day! They were talking about it all week!
At the end of every 9 weeks, the school usually does a fun activity called Club Day. Club day is when there are a bunch of fun activities that students can participate in but it is by grade level most of the time. This time is special because it is a COMMUNITY CLUB DAY. There were Community members along with teachers running each club and were with all different grade levels. That was cool because we got to meet new kids!
Wetland Poster Contest
Written by: Gracie Vincent, Marlee Lanham, Andrew Wohlever, Lena Hayhurst, and Jerrie Callahan
This month we made posters about what we love about wetlands for a poster contest! Our posters include animals and plants like a long tailed weasel, a great blue heron, Venus fly trap, pitcher plant, and more. On the back of the posters we had to put name, age, school, grade, and why we made the plants, or animals .We also put details, color and added labels of what the animals or plants were called. Wetlands are important to us, the animals that live in a wetland revolve around it. They provide clean water for us and without the wetlands the population of animals and the supply for water would go down.
