Women's History Month
March 8th is International Women's Day and the whole month of March focuses on the women that paved the way in many topics and debates.
- March of 1978 in Santa Rosa, CA, awareness of women's contributions was celebrated for a week. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter declared the week of march 8th National Women's History Week. He urged everyone in the United States to participate. Carter said, " too often the women were unsung and sometimes their contributions went unnoticed. But the achievements, leadership, courage, strength, and love of the women who built America was as vital as that of the men whose names we know so well" (National Geographic Kids, 2024)

March 17th-St. Patrick's Day
While St. Patrick's Day did originate from Ireland many of the traditions that we know from today came from America. Irish immigrants from the Potato Famine in the 1800's, came to America with their celebrations but expanded these traditions in America.
Fun Facts about Ramadan
What our Ramadan observant students want our BHMS community to know about Ramadan.
I had the privilege to interview a few students about Ramadan. These statements are what they want our community to know about Ramadan.
- Ramadan is a blessing because it helps cleanse your soul from sin through sacrifice, i.e. fasting during Ramadan.
- The sacrifices students experience is fasting from food and water during the day and not listening to music but because of these sacrifices they feel they have a greater focus during the month.
- One of the best parts of Ramadan is the feast of food with family after sunset every night.
- Ramadan is hard but you get use to the observance.
More Note-taking Tips!
How do you successfully take notes? This above strategy can work on paper or a google doc. You use the "If"/ "Then" idea to take your notes. For example, If you have a question-write it down on the left side. Then on the right side you answer the question. Easy! This can work with vocab, math problems, events etc...
The third step is write a quick two sentence summary of what you learned for that page. This is a recall skill. It helps solidify the information in your brain.
Note-Taking Tip!
Re-read your notes at the end of the school day, each day. The information is fresh in your mind and you will be able to write out further explanations if the notes are not clear for future review.
- Ask yourself this question for each page of notes, "Was the really the main point? If not, what was?"

The Kumeyaay-Ipai Interpretive Center of Pauwai (Poway) is a five acre site rich in the local history of the Kumeyaay-Ipai Indian tribes. Follow the trails past ramadas, interpretive signage, native gardens and a replica of an 'ewaa (native Kumeyaay house). Morteros (grinding stones) left by the original Kumeyaay inhabitants still remain on this historic site. Also visit the Education Center to view artifacts and other interesting historical items and photos.
