Morris Elementary School
Week of April 29
Hello Parents and Guardians,
As we dive into the final stretch of the school year, I wanted to take a moment to commend our students on their recent performance during our relocation drill. Your children's safety is our top priority, and I am pleased to report that they handled the drill with maturity and responsibility. Thanks to their cooperation and the diligence of our staff, we were able to resume normal activities within an hour. Your continued support and partnership in ensuring a safe learning environment are truly appreciated.
In another matter, I'd like to draw your attention to a section from our school handbook regarding appropriate attire. Recently, we've noticed some students wearing clothing that does not adhere to our guidelines outlined in the handbook. While we understand the importance of self-expression, it's equally crucial that our students dress appropriately for a conducive learning environment. If a student is found wearing something inappropriate, we may need to contact you for a change of clothes or provide them with an alternative option available at school. Thank you for your cooperation in reinforcing this expectation with your children.
On a lighter note, I'm excited to remind you that our last walk, bike, and roll to school event of the year is scheduled for this Wednesday, May 1st. We'll gather at Lilac Park and make our way to school together. The extended forecast for Wednesday predicts warm and dry weather, so it's shaping up to be a fantastic morning. I encourage you to join us for this fun and healthy activity. Your participation not only promotes physical wellness but also fosters a sense of community within our school.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Your feedback is invaluable as we work together to ensure the success and well-being of our students.
EXCITING NEWS TIGER'S TALENT SHOW IS THIS FRIDAY -MAY 3RD
Exciting news! The Tigers' Talent Show is just around the corner, and it's going to be an amazing evening filled with talent, laughter, and fun memories. Mark your calendars for Friday, May 3rd at 6:00 in the Morris gym because you won't want to miss it!
But wait, there's more! We're inviting all families to join in on the excitement and support our talented performers. Whether your child is participating or you simply want to enjoy the show, we'd love to see you there cheering on our students.
If you're looking for a way to get involved and add a special touch to the event, we're hosting a decoration session on Wednesday, May 1st. We'll be creating some dazzling shining stars to light up the stage! If you're interested, please stop by Mr. K's room with an adult from 3:30 to 4:15. It's a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the magic of the talent show while bonding with other families.
Let's come together as a community to celebrate the incredible talents of our students and create unforgettable memories. See you at the Tigers' Talent Show!
APPROPRIATE ATTIRE
Section below is from the Morris Handbook.
Students at Morris are expected to dress appropriately for school and school-sponsored activities. It is important for students to understand that the dress code is not intended to discriminate based on race, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, cultural observance, household income, or body type/size. Students and staff must also bear in mind that it is their responsibility to manage their own personal "distractions" without regulating individual students' clothing/self-expression.
Shirts and dresses must have fabric in the front, back and on the sides (under the arms).
All shirts must have some form of strap or sleeve.
Shirts should at least reach the navel.
All shorts, dresses, and skirts must reach past the bottom of the buttocks. (Hemlines of skirts and shorts should fall below the fingertips when arms are relaxed at sides.)
Students will be asked to change their clothing if it does not fall into any of the above categories. Students are asked to remove hats or hoods from sweatshirts upon entering the building unless they are necessary for medical reasons, religious or for a special school event.
This does not mean that student, faculty, or parent/guardian groups may not recommend appropriate dress for school or special occasions. It means that a student will not be prevented from attending school or a school function, or otherwise be discriminated against, so long as their dress and appearance meet the requirements set forth above.
Your child should have appropriate clothing and outerwear for the day’s weather conditions. No child will be allowed to stay in during recess in the winter because they didn’t bring their boots, mittens, etc.
Shoes are mandatory in Massachusetts and sneakers are mandatory for physical education classes. Flip flops and other backless footwear is strongly discouraged. For safety sake, students who do not have appropriate footwear will not be allowed to play on the playground equipment.

In honor of Earth Day - Solar Eclipse Glasses Donation
The next annular eclipse is October 2, 2024. The eclipse will be visible from parts of South America. Morris Elementary School is collecting solar eclipse glasses to send to South America so that students in Latin America can view the eclipse. If families still have their eclipse glasses and are willing to donate them, please send them into school with your child by Monday, May 6th. Thank you!
