On Wednesday afternoon there was a fire drill at our school. The drill went safely and efficiently. 4-17-2024

On Wednesday morning, students from the 1-6 learning communities were treated to one-hour masterclasses in creating beautifully illustrated books on nature and science. Librarian Ms. Levine secured a visit to City School by Vermont resident Jason Chin, an award winning artist and author. His beautiful books have earned a Caldecott Medal, a Sibert Honor and an Orbis Pictus Award. Mr. Chin explained the entire process of creating his most recent book, The Universe in You, which took him a year and a half to make and publish. He emphasized the careful research required, the multiple written and art drafts it took, and the vetting process needed for a high quality product. Mr. Chin ended his presentation with a rapid and crisp drawing demonstration using charcoal that left his audiences impressed. Students had a chance to ask questions and some sought his autograph in personal copies of his books. Ultimately, students learned that curiosity, practice, extensive research and persistence lead to work that people can be proud of.

Maple Run Unified School District and Northwestern Counseling & Support Services (NCSS) are hosting two upcoming presentations by Dr. Harris Strokoff on Social Media, the Internet, Gaming Addiction, Depression, and Suicide Risks in Kids and Teens:

May 7, 2024, at 6:00 pm at Bellows Free Academy
May 21, 2024, at 6:00 pm at Saint Albanst Town Educational Center

Dr. Harris Strokoff, Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist and Medical Director at Northwestern Counseling & Support Services, career has spanned almost 20 years and he will share medical evidence, as well as first-hand accounts, of how the internet, gaming, and social media addiction worsens mental health outcomes in children and teenagers and worsens suicide
risks in these populations.

All Maple Run families and community members are invited. Dinner will be provided.
