U of H Baseball National Space Day!
UH Athletics is partnering with the UH STEM Center & Rice Office of STEM engagement to celebrate National Space Day for the home baseball game versus UCF on Saturday, May 4th, at 6:30 PM. All Houston Area schools are invited to the first ever UH Space Day game at Schroeder Park for a day packed with educational activities related to both baseball and STEM. Johnson Space Center CFO, Sid Schmidt, will be throwing out the first pitch for the game. Sid earned his Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Jurisprudence degrees from the University of Houston.
We will also have NASA on site for the game! NASA will be bringing space models, space equipment, space food, a tattoo station, and will be handing out NASA accessories! NASA mascot, Cosmo the astronaut, will also be at the game for photo opportunities..
Tickets are $10 for the event that will include admission to the game, STEM activities, and a bagged lunch from Antone's Famous Po'Boys. UH Athletics is looking forward to bringing the local youth out to the game, and giving them the opportunity to learn more about one of the most beloved aspects of Houston's history, SPACE!
The educational sessions will start at 3:00PM, and will end at 5:00PM.
The Field of Play: Students compare and contrast which position on the field requires the strongest arm and fastest player by using distances on a coordinate plane system. Students calculate the unknown distance of a right triangle using the Pythagorean Theorem.
WHAT ITS MADE OUT OF?: Students make observations and measurements of different types of materials. Students will explain how properties impact the function of a baseball.
KINETIC TRANSFER OF ENERGY: Students throw soft balls experiencing kinesthetically how different body positions impact pitching trajectories and speeds.
To register as individuals, please follow this link: https://forms.gle/F2oXB3TMFWK7NHTDA
The deadline to register is at the end of the day on Friday, April 5th, 2024.
