GVES Weekly Update
April 28, 2023
Principals' Update
Happy Friday GVES families!
Last week our 3rd graders got a first hand learning experience about the instruments they can play in 4th and 5th grade band and orchestra. There will be more information to come from our band director Mr. Olson and orchestra director Mrs. Burke. Our inaugural team of thirty-six, 5th grade Safety Patrols began their hall duties. Students were required to submit applications and participate in a training program before school. We are really excited to offer this leadership opportunity to our 5th graders.
Congratulations to all of our students for successfully completing the English Language Arts portion of the PSSA this week. Next week we will be administering the math test Monday and Tuesday in all grades. Fourth grade ONLY will take the science test on Wednesday and Thursday.
5th grade parents, please save the date for Tuesday, June 13th @ 12:30 for our 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony.
Next week is Staff Appreciation! Our HSA has many fun treats planned to celebrate the faculty and staff at Garnet Valley Elementary School. Thank you to all of the families who support the HSA!
Last but not least, PLEASE do not send glass water bottles to school. Our floors are hard laminate and glass bottles can shatter very easily. Thank you in advance!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Jones & Mrs. Conley

Upcoming PASS Assessment
Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
The Social and Emotional well-being of our students is at the forefront of our decision making in Garnet Valley School District. In order to inform our decision making related to social and emotional supports at school, we plan to administer a brief 10-20 minute universal survey to all of our students. The survey, entitled the Pupil Attitudes to Self and School (PASS), provides schools with reliable and valid data about how students feel about themselves as a learner and how they feel about school. The research- based survey assists schools in detecting possible barriers to student learning, including issues around confidence, resilience, motivation, and concentration so that we can attempt to proactively intervene to provide supports for our students and school community. More information about PASS can be found by clicking HERE.
As with any survey, participation is voluntary, parents have the right to preview the questions prior to participation, and can opt their children out of the survey. If you would like to preview the survey or to opt your children out, please contact: Kim Doyle, Supervisor of Social and Emotional Learning at: doylek@garnetvalley.org or 610-579-7381.
Specific information about how and when our building will be administering our survey will be shared in the upcoming weeks. Thank you in advance for your consideration of PASS.
