WALKING WEDNESDAY

This Wednesday will be the only Walking-Wednesday scheduled for March. Please come out and join us. It is expected to be a cool, clear, and windless morning. March 13th. There will be stickers, pencils and slap bracelets for student walkers.

RENAISSANCE 7TH GRADE COOKING

Health teacher, Ms. Robinson, guided the Team Renaissance 7th graders through a cooking lesson in fillers for wheat tortillas. Students scrambled eggs, chopped up peppers and avacados, and cooked bacon and sausage. These ingredients and a cheese of their choice were rolled into tortillas that were then toasted on a griddle. The students loved the food preparation process and the chance to taste their work. They also tolerated the cleanup task that ended the class session.

ROBOT ADVENTURES - HAPPENING THROUGH MARCH

As seen in the below video, robots at City school are suffering from winter boredom. They had so much fun during the month of code in December but now are tucked away in their boxes awaiting adventure. What does this have to do with you? Your class can help give the robots a vacation. Simply let the STEAM team know which robot you want and when! We will deliver the robots to you-- ready to go!

https://www.wevideo.com/view/3328938796

AND as an incentive....the class that gives the robot the best vacation will win a robot for their classroom! (contest goes through the end of March)

Not sure which robot to choose? Our makerspace website lists all the robots we have (as well as the quantity) and has a video showing how they work with each one, as well as details on ease of use OR just reach out and we can help match your class with an appropriate robot. Here is the link to the robot website:

THE TALES OF A 7TH GRADE TRANS SUPER HERO

One of our Discovery 5th Grade Students wrote a story she would like to share with potentially interested readers. It was inspired by the banned book club meeting that happened on a recent afternoon.

Prologue

I’m in the car and It’s 1:30 a.m we’re going 20 miles over the speed limit. If it weren't 1:30 a.m we would be pulled over by now. But we’re not. We are running away from my dad and my school. My own dang school was so bad that we had to leave.....

ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP

This is the story of a little girl who just wanted to go, even when others tried to stop her.

Jennifer Keelan was determined to make a change―even if she was just a kid. She never thought her wheelchair could slow her down, but the way the world around her was built made it hard to do even simple things. Like going to school, or eating lunch in the cafeteria.

Jennifer knew that everyone deserves a voice! Then the Americans with Disabilities Act, a law that would make public spaces much more accessible to people with disabilities, was proposed to Congress. And to make sure it passed, Jennifer went to the steps of the Capitol building in Washington DC to convince them. And, without her wheelchair, she climbed.

THROUGH MY EYES

In November 1960, all of America watched as a tiny six-year-old black girl, surrounded by federal marshals, walked through a mob of screaming segregationists and into her school. An icon of the civil rights movement, Ruby Bridges chronicles each dramatic step of this pivotal event in history through her own words.
